Two Days International Workshop on Robotics and E-Agriculture

Department of Computer Sciences, LCWU, partnered with Department of Computer Sciences, LUMS to organize a two day international workshop on Robotics and E-agriculture on 13th -14th October, 2016 at LUMS and PC Hotel, Lahore. Prof. Dr. Shagufta Naz, Director Research/ ORIC, inaugurated this workshop. In her address, Prof. Dr. Shagufta Naz highlighted the history of LCWU and its mission and vision and the stupendous role that women have played in the global social structure as well as in Pakistan and how LCWU strives to provide quality education to women. She discussed the progress in various fields of research at LCWU along with the university’s journals, the patents filed at national and international levels, various projects won by faculty members and research articles published in peer reviewed articles. She discussed the success of various academic programs at LCWU and the significance of national and international collaborations. She concluded her address by highlighting the importance of research in agriculture with special reference to Pakistan and possible collaborations between the participating organizations and universities.

Many distinguished professors and speakers from University of Siegen, Germany, University of Kaiserslautern, Germany, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC), NAMAL University, University of Agricultural, Faisalabad, talked about the recent advances in the field of Robotics and E- agriculture. Dr. Ahmed Kamal Nasir from LUMS conducted a tutorial in a all-day parallel session where he demonstrated the use of robo-kits. Dr. Munir Ahmed, Chief Scientist, PARC talked about the present state of agriculture mechanization in Pakistan and reviewed the potential and constraints of Robotic agriculture in Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Hurbort Roth, University of Siegen, highlighted the importance of forests in ecosystem and he also discussed the use of low cost robotics system for aerial mapping of forests using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in order to estimate forest vegetation. Dr. Muhammad Abubakr, LUMS, highlighted the use of UAV to inspect siltation of water channels. Prof. Dr. Karsten Berns, University of Kaiserslautern, discussed the safe and reliable operation of commercial and agricultural vehicles. In the end, Ms. Faria Afzal, International Graduate Student Advisor, University of Siegen, Germany, discussed the research opportunities at the University and she also gave an overview of the admission process and scholarship possiblities at the university. The sessions were chaired by faculty members of LCWU. The university shields were distributed amongst all the speakers by Prof. Dr. Shagufta Naz & Dr. Maria Anjum, Assistant Professor, thanked all the participants.


"3 Day training workshop “Microsoft Azure”"

Microsoft Student Partner LCWU Lahore conducted a 3 Day training workshop “Microsoft Azure” with the collaboration of Microsoft Pakistan and VizRah.

This workshop was for three days from 7-1-2016 to 9-1-2016, held at Computer Science department of LCWU. It was the great opportunity for technology oriented students to learn the development on cloud.

Dr. Muhammad Abuzar Fahiem (Head of CS Department, LCWU) and Mr. Aqib Nadeem (DX at Microsoft) was the guest and distributed certificates among students.

LCWU in collaboration with Microsoft and HEC is empowering Pakistan’s IT field by introducing new packages for students and by encouraging them to take part in such activities.

"MIS Training Workshop"

Directorate of Faculty Development & Internationalization and Department of Computer Science arranged one day MIS training/ workshop on 19th August, 2014 by Mr. Muhammad Awais Chughtai, Project Coordinator at Digital Eduquest for the Deans, Directors, Academic & Administrative Heads of LCWU.

Mr. Awais informed the participants about University Prospect Applicants, Student Management, General Administration, Student Enrollment & Billing, Human resource Management & Inventory Management.

Awareness Seminar on Cybercrime

The scope and dimensions of cybercrime are very vast and complicated which requires special expertise to handle and resolve. For this purpose the Department of Computer Science, LCWU organized a seminar on “Awareness on Cybercrime and Computer Forensic” on 29th May 2014 at IT Conference Room. The Guest Speaker Engr Muhammad Rizwan Sabir, Deputy Director, Cyber Crime Circle, Federal Investigation Agency Lahore along with officers of NR3C Lahore was invited to deliver the lecture on cybercrime issues/fraud.

“Cybercrime is criminal activity done using computers and the Internet. This includes anything from stealing millions of dollars from online bank accounts to downloading illegal music files”. said Mr Muhammad Rizwan while adressing the students and Faculty of Computer Science Department. He further shared that Cybercrime also included non-monetary offenses, such as creating and distributing viruses on other computers or posting confidential business information on the Internet. He added that the public at large is needed to be aware of such crimes so that they may not be easily trapped by the criminals doing their heinous activities on internet or through credit cards etc.

He further shares that FIA handles different types of Cyber Crime cases in Pakistan.The major category of cases which are handled, are as under:
Financial Crimes
Email Treating
Denial of Service attack and DDOS attack.
Virus / Worm attacks
Credit Cards Frauds
Anti Pakistan/Islam material on websites
ATM Frauds
Mobile communication
Theft of Systems
Web SMS

The seminar was a very beneficial experience for the students and faculty. Mr. Muhammad Rizwan Sabir gave detailed answers to all the questions posed by the students. He made the question answer session interesting by presenting examples from his own experience. Dr. Abuzar Fahiem, HOD Computer Science Department in the end thanked the honorable guest and presented him with a shield and bouquet.
