Workshop/Seminar/Webinar

·         A workshop on "Empowering Young Women for Better Future of Pakistan” was organized by the Department of Home Economics at Lahore College for Women University, Lahore on 24th August 2021 at 10:30 am. Ms.Shaista Khawar, a renowned floral, landscape and monument designer, Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza, worthy VC of LCWU and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afzal, Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, graced the occasion with their presence. Various heads of the departments, faculty members and students of Home Economics attended the event and appreciated work of Ms.Shaista Khawar. Cake cutting ceremony was also held at the end to celebrate Diamond Jubilee of Pakistan. Students, staff and faculty of Home Economics Department also welcomed Dr. Muhammad Afzal, Dean Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences to the department.

·         Department of Home Economics organized one day webinar on “Breastfeeding Protection, Support and Promotion: A Sustainable Approach” on 17th, August 2021 at 10:00 am. Dr. Shazia Muazam, Associate Professor, HBS Medical & Dental College; Dr. Najma Shaheen, Gynecologist, Police Line Hospital; Dr. Tanveer Shah, Former district health officer, Govt.of Punjab; Dr. Mudassara Yaseen, Associate Professor, Sheikh Zayed Medical Complex; Dr. Samra Imran, Head of Department, University of Home Economics; Ms. Shifa Ali, clinical dietitian, Ittefaq Hospital Trust and Dr. Tehreem Fatima, senior registrar peadiatrics, Children’s Hospital & Institute of Child Health were guest speakers.

·         Department of Home Economics organized one day webinar on “Knowledge, Skills and Behavior Development” on 18th, February 2021 at 11:00 am. Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza, VC of Lahore College for Women University, Lahore; Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, VC of University of the Punjab; Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameen, VC of University of Home Economics and Prof. Dr. Saiqa Imtiaz Asif, VC of Govt. Sadiq College Women University were guest speakers. The purpose of webinar was to highlight the importance of skills found to be more effective in promoting positive social and mental health in youth, which help in developing self-confidence and emotional intelligence.

·        Department of Home Economics organized a seminar on “Disease and Diet” in collaboration with Geography Department at LCWU on 18th April 2019 in which awareness was provided to students regarding the effective use of therapeutic diet for curing acute and chronic complications caused by various diseases. It also highlighted the significance of healthy and balanced diet for the wellbeing of humans.

·         Department of Home Economics organized a seminar on “Career Counseling and trends in Home Economics” at Lahore College for Women University, Lahore on 9th January,2019.

·         Department of Home Economics organized a seminar in collaboration with COTHM on Awareness about “Health Benefits and food fortification” on 17th September 2019. It highlighted the significance of using fortified foods to overcome nutrient deficiencies among people belonging to different age groups. In countries where intakes of certain nutrients are very low, fortification can help reduce nutrient deficiency diseases.

·         A seminar on the “Importance of food safety and nutrition for a healthy nationwas organized by the Department of Home Economics at Lahore College for Women University, Lahore in collaboration with the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on 4th April 2018. LCWU Vice Chancellor Dr Uzma Quraishi and PFA Director General Noor ul Amin Mengal inaugurated the poster, cooking competition and the model food competition, while highlighting the importance of food safety. Students from various departments participated in the competitions. Clinical Dietician Ms. Shifa Ali also gave students tips on which type of foods can provide them with the right nutrition and how junk food can cause serious health issues later in life.

·         The seminar on “Stress Management” was arranged by department of Home Economics, on 16th March, 2012 from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. Reiki, Acupressure and Meridian therapist, Mr. Omer Iftikhar, conducted the seminar and told participants on managing stress and ways to relax oneself.
