Seminar on “Disability and Development” was held on 24-10-16 at Department of City and Regional Planning , LCWU under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Atiq ur Rahman (Head of Department). The seminar focused on barrier free movement in Japan and the needs which are to be fulfilled in Pakistan for achieving the same for people in Pakistan. The focal person Shfiq ur Rahman highlighted the areas of development and infrastructure diffuseness within the campus which needs to be improved to insure all sustainable and all inclusive development. The guest speaker from Misako Yasuhara, Kenji Hamano, Masami Morigami also shred their views about the disability and role of environment.
The outcome of their discussion was “disability does not lie in the bodies rather it is the disabled environment which left them in lurch “,further they added the role of planner should be paly active and progressive . The program ended by a meeting of chief guests, honorable faculty members and Vice Chancellor of Lahore College for Women University, Professor Dr. Uzma Quraishi. She appreciated the participation of the department and ensured that her positive role would always be there for the betterment of country in general and university and students in particular.

Department of City and Regional Planning awards the “Abdul Rahim Khan – Academic Certificates” to all position holders of every session on basis of semester’s result. This has developed a sense of competition among students for achieving excellence in their academics. Every year, the students and faculty members of Department of City and Regional Planning, LCWU plants about 1000 plants for supporting clean environment and aesthetics. This has been achieved by plantation of citrus trees in the campus. Representatives of Morgah Biodiversity Park, Rawalpindi was present at this occasion to witness the tree plantation.

The Zero Visit of Pakistan Council of Architects & Town Planners (PCATP) to City and Regional Planning, LCWU has been carried out for the Accreditation of Department with PCATP. The Registrar PCATP along with other senior members of the team visited the CRP Department. A brief introduction of the department was presented to the Team.

Seminar on “How to control Your Anger”
A seminar was held in the City & Regional Planning, LCWU on the topic of How to control Your Anger. The Guest Speaker was Dr. Khalid Jamil Akhtar who is a renowned scholar and Medical professional. Along with medical Doctor he holds special degrees on Rehabilitation.
At present he is working as a head of rehabilitation department Mayo Hospital Lahore and he is also founder of this rehabilitation department. His autobiography "Teesra Janam" has received enormous gratitude all over the country and also abroad. He is an internationally renowned personality. The students actively participated in the Seminar and discuss the related issues with Dr. Khalid Jamil in the Seminar.

Workshop on “Disaster Management in Pakistan” in collaboration with Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA)
A three days Workshop was conducted at the City & Regional Planning Department, LCWU in collaboration with the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) to discuss the disaster preparedness and management techniques.
The faculty and students were briefed about the various disaster preparedness and management techniques in order to prepare the community to face the challenges occurring in case of disasters. The aim was to equip the participants with such disaster management techniques that they may actively participate at local level to help the community.

Tree Plantation Activity in Lahore College for Women University, Jail Road, Lahore
Plants of different fruits, around 100 in number, were planted within the University. The objective of the tree plantation activity is not only to provide a healthy environment within the campus but also to enhance the aesthetic beauty of the University. Such activity was also carried out by the Department of City & Regional Planning in spring season last year.

Pak Japan joint seminar on Disability and Development: Disaster Preparedness for Persons with Disability was held at IT Seminar Hall, Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) on Tuesday, August 20, 2013. Ms. Naoko Nishio, General Secretary of Japan Independent Living (JIL) was the chief guest of the seminar. The seminar was a collaborative event of the Department of City & Regional Planning (CRP); Student Council of LCWU; Independent Living Center of LCWU and Milestone Society of the Special Persons.
The program started with the recitation from the Holy Quran. National Anthems of both Japan and Pakistan were played and the participants stood in respect of the national anthem.

A Seminar on “Future Role of Town Planners for City and Regional Planning (CRP) in Pakistan” was held in CRP Department of Lahore College for Women University, Lahore under the Chief Guest-Professor A Sattar Sikander, who is the founder of Town Planning/ City & Regional Planning Discipline in Pakistan. Prof. Sikander has a splendid record of producing eminent town planners all over the world and notably Prof. Dr. Qamar ul Islam is one of his school of thoughts since 1970 while he was his student at undergraduate level and was highly impressed by his lectures in “History of Urban Planning” at UET, Lahore.
The programme was started with the name of Allah and recitation from the Holy Quran by a BS Student. Dr Atiq (HOD) of CRP Department welcomed the Chief Guest with the profound introduction of Prof. Sikander and then introduced his faculty members, students and staff.
MS Students Afshan Farooq and Hafiza Saba Islam gave their presentation on “Future Roles of a City and Regional Planner.” Firstly Afshan Farooq introduced the background characteristics of a research thesis by Qamar ul Islam completed in 1975 in which he reflected his school of thoughts on this topic of this seminar. With reference to his research on “Transportation Planning by the British in Punjab and Its Impacts on Trade: An Historical Perspective” she showed 6 research questions with respective objectives and particularly objectives 5-6 leading to future roles of planners.
Hafiza Saba Islam highlighted on recommendations specific and comprehensive. Regarding future role of planner she particularly focused on “Way Forward” and ultimately showed “Future Roles of Planner as the researcher and City and Regional Planner with question mark in 1975? She reproduced the four important historical perspectives of future roles of a planner as follows:
1. The dream of education planning centre at Barki in the rural landscapes of Lahore District.
2. The city and regional planning issues and challenges in Bar and Bet divide of country side.
(a) Safety of human lives and settlements in rural and urban areas, various climatic changes and challenges.
(b) Development of centre of urban and regional transportation planning
3. The Gender Role in “City and Regional Planning” or “Town Planning” discipline in the country.
(a) Demand of separate City and Regional Planning or Town Planning Department in the colleges and universities of women in rural or urban life.
(b) The Gender Role in planning and development in the plain, mountainous and desert landscapes of the country
4. To strengthen local and global links and linkages of CRP Department with other universities, ministry of housing and development au
Miss Afshan and Saba Islam both highlighted on future role-1 in general and 3- in particular with the result that CRP Department at LCWU at present is the dream thought of Kausar Islam and her mutual consultative way forward objective with the help of Malik Meraj Khalid, President of Anjuman Akhwane Islam (AAI). It was evident that with the establishment of this CRP department in a woman university she was the first lady visited and prayed here in the premises-in the real world situation. These presenters appreciated that in fact it was the school of thoughts of Prof. Sikander by which Qamar ul Islam (Later Prof. Dr. Qamar ul Islam) got the result through the continuous and great efforts of Dr Atiq under the umbrella of his honorable Vice Chancellor and elders of LCWU and that the classes started on 1st October 2012 and the first lecture was delivered by the Professor from the school of thoughts of Professor Sikander.
Prof. Dr. Qamar ul Islam also presented his paper on “Future Role of Planners in Pakistan” followed by comments, question answer session through the head (Prof. Dr Qamar ul Islam) of plenary group. Dr. Sajjad Ahmad said his good words as the vote of thanks to the Chief Guest.
At the end the Chief Guest Prof. Sikander addressed with his beautiful and attractive speech on the establishment of new CRP department, the programme and discipline of BS and MS students. He encouraged all the students with good hopes and prospects with safe future.
Workshop on “Safety of Aircrafts and Airport Planning”

A workshop on “Safety of Aircrafts and Airport Planning” under the joint efforts of Professor Dr. Qamar ul Islam, a senior professor of City and Regional Planning (CRP) Department of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) and Mr. Muhammad Sheraz, Airworthiness Surveyor (Aerospace) of Civil Aviation Authority, Karachi was convened during 2nd May 13 to 16th May 2013 for BS Second Semester CRP students studying the subject of “Transportation Engineering” at CRP Department of LCWU, Lahore, Pakistan.
The workshop consisted of 6 sections covered by the professor and Airworthiness jointly on:
(1) Airport Planning
(2) The Flight of Aircrafts
(3) Cultural Classification of Airports
(4) Structural Classifications of Airports
(5) Site Selection for Airports
(6) Spatial Standards for Design of Airports
Having completed the workshop the certificate award ceremony was celebrated on 31st May 2013 at CRP Department under Dr. Bisma as the chief guest of the event.
The award event was started with the recitation from Alquran-the holy book by BS Second year student-Arwa Tariq. Dr M. Atiq, the Head of the Department welcomed the chief guest and highlighted on the phases and stages of the progress of CRP department from difficult days towards good days now. Professor Dr. Qamar ul Islam introduced the BS students and their performance with respect to the subject “Transportation Engineering,” its vital part on Airport Planning and joint efforts for the Workshop on “Safety of Aircrafts and Airport Planning” with special reference to the great help from Mr. Sheraz, an experienced expert from Civil Aviation Authority, Karachi.
Dr. Bisma-The Chief Guest was honored to give the certificates of the workshop to BS students. Then she delivered her beautiful speech in a beautiful and happy mood. In fact the students, HOD and the teachers of the department appreciated her thoughts, her appreciations for our Vice Chancellor, elders of our university, HOD and senior professor for the establishment and up gradation of CRP Department in particular. A seminar on ““Role of City and Regional Planners for Disaster Management in Pakistan” under the joint efforts of Professor Dr. Qamar ul Islam, a senior professor of City and Regional Planning (CRP) Department of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Dr Atiq (Head of the Department) and MS Second Semester students under the subject of “Disaster Resilience Recovery and Rehabilitation” was held during 27-28 May 2013.
The seminar consisted of the research papers related to the challenges of disaster management in Pakistan and south Asian countries undertaken by Ministry of Housing followed by UNDP, NDMA, PDMA and Chief Planner and Policy Planning Specialists of Mott Macdonald Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd.

Due to shortage of time and final examination pressure of BS and MS, this event was celebrated with BS students celebration on 31st May 2013. Seminar on “SHARP Solar Energy”
The General Manager of SHARP-SOLAR, Japan visited the City and regional Planning Department, LCWU for an informative seminar on the use of solar power techniques. A meeting was also held with the Vice Chancellor, LCWU; Prof. Dr. Sabiha Mansoor for discussing the prospects of active collaboration between SHARP-SOLAR and LCWU, Lahore.

A seminar on “Regional Development Planning” regarding Integrated Strategic Development Plan for Lahore Region-2035 (ISDP-35) was organized by the collaboration of City and Regional Planning (CRP) Department and Mot Macdonald Pak (Pvt.) Ltd at CRP Department, Lahore College for Women University, Lahore.
Dr. M. Atiq ur Rahman, Head of CRP Department welcomed the honorable guest speakers from various institutions and universities including UET and University of South Asia, and representative from members of Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), UK. In his message, Prof. Dr. Farhat Saleemi, Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology appreciated the successful holding of the seminar.
The honorable Chief Guest, Sheikh Abdul Rasheed, Ex-Director General, Lahore Development Authority, appreciated the efforts and visionew 2020 of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Sabiha Mansoor for the establishment of this new Department of City and Regional Planning in LCWU.
Prof. Ikram Shah Gelani from University of South Asia highlighted spiritual thoughts for making regional plan. Dr. Ijaz (Regional Planning Expert) emphasized to bring the regional planning into real practice. Hafiz Moeen-uddin, member from Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTP) also favored the practice of regional planning for large cities of the country.
At the end of the seminar, Dr. M. Atiq ur Rahman highly valued the regional planning efforts of Mr. Sheikh Rasheed (Ex-DG, LDA), Seminar efforts of Prof. Dr. Qamar ul Islam including critical thoughts deduced from the brainstorming thoughts of Plenary Group.
