WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION AT ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT

A Workshop themed as “DESIGN THINKING” was arranged by Electrical Engineering Department, LCWU on International Women’s Day in collaboration with DIY GEEKS on 8th March, 2018. It emphasizes on community building of female makers that come together, interact with each other, share ideas, work together on same interest of solutions to problems and learn new skills to build tech products. A small design thinking activity was also planned for participants. All female faculty members and students actively participated and shared their innovative ideas.

Seminar On “Myocardial Perfusion Pet Parametric Imaging At The Voxel-Level”, By Electrical Engineering Department-23rd Feb, 2018

Department of Electrical Engineering, LCWU organized a seminar “Quantitative Myocardial Perfusion PET Parametric Imaging at the Voxel-level” conducted by Dr. Hassan Mohy-ud-din (Assistant Professor, Electrical Engineering Department, LUMS) on 23rd February, 2018.  Seminar emphasizes the research domain of Quantitative Myocardial Perfusion (MP) PET that has potential to enhance detection of early stages of atherosclerosis or micro vascular dysfunction, characterization of flow-limiting effects of coronary artery disease (CAD) and identification of balanced reduction of flow due to multi vessel stenosis. It was very informative and encouraging session for research students. It was attended by the faculty members and students of MS-EE and BS-EE.

Study Tour to “Grid Station of LESCO” by Electrical Engineering Department-22nd Feb, 2018

Department of Electrical Engineering, LCWU arranged an educational tour to KotlakhPat Grid Station (LESCO) on 22ndFebruary, 2018. Brief yet comprehensive information was given about the grid station; from control rooms to the outdoor units every part was well explained to students by the Resident Engineer. Mr. Sajjad Rabbani was the key coordinator for this tour. It was accompanied by Dr. Sadia Murawwat, Mr. Sajjad Rabbani, Dr. Taskeen Raza, Ms. Aisha Jilani, Ms. Ismat Hira and Ms. Ayesha Tariq along with students of  MS-EE (2016-2018), MS-EE (2017-2019) and BE (2014-2018).

Prof. Dr. Intesar Ahmed, Head of Electrical Engineering Department at Lahore College for Women University, Lahore has been appointed by the worthy chancellor as the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology on 28th November 2017.

Prof. Dr. Intesar Ahmed received BSc. Electrical Engineering from UET, Lahore, MSc. in Electrical Power Engineering from University of New South Wales, Australia and PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of Adelaide, Australia. He has published over twenty refereed papers in major international journals and conferences and is registered with Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) as a Professional Engineer. He has more then 25 years of experience in educational administration, teaching and research. Furthermore, he is an HEC approved supervisor, an IEEEP fellow, member of Engineers Australia, National Curriculum Review Committee (NCRC) and PEC accreditation committee

Electrical Engineering Faculty Member Awarded Research Grant

Dr. Aqsa Shabbir at the Department of Electrical Engineering has been awarded a research grant of 0.43 million under start-up-research grant programme of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.

The project titled, “Automated Recognition System Using Deep Neural Networks” aims to develop an automatic facial expression and speech emotion recognition system which can have major implications for human-computer interaction, neuromarketing and terrorism prevention. Dr. Aqsa Shabbir serves as the Principal Investigator and Prof. Dr. Intesar Ahmed, Dean Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, is the Co-Principal Investigator.

Dr. Aqsa Shabbir re-joined the Department of Electrical Engineering after the completion of her PhD studies from Ghent University Belgium and Ludwig-Maximillian University of Munich, Germany. She is an author of more than 25 referred journal and conference publications.

Pakistan Engineering Council grants accreditation to Department of Electrical Engineering

Pakistan Engineering Council has granted accreditation to the BSc. Electrical Engineering graduating session of 2016 (intake 2011) and 2017 (intake 2012).

The department congratulations the talented graduates and wishes them best for their future.

Further, the work of faculty and staff at the Department of Electrical Engineering, led by Prof. Dr. Intesar Ahmed is highly commended for obtained the above accreditation. The efforts of Dr. Sadia Murawwat, Mr. Sajjad Rabbani, Ms. Nausheen Bilal, Ms. Ayesha Jillani and Ms. Ismat Hira are particularly highly appreciated. 

Poster Presentation of MS-Electrical Engineering Students

MS-Electrical Engineering students of LCWU has successfully presented their research work in form of poster in “5th Invention to Innovation Summit organized by IRP Punjab University” on 2-3March, 2016.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Final year Project VIVA of BE Session 2011-2015


Final year project VIVA of session 2011-2015 was held on 25th August, 2015 in Department of Electrical Engineering of Lahore College for Women University. Students have designed very innovative projects using modern technology methods under the supervision of  Mr. Sajjad Rabbani, Mr Umer Rana, Ms Hina Shahid, Ms Aisha Jilani and Ms Ismat hira.


Mr. Abid Rasheed, Mr. Shahzad and Mr. Khurram from leading organizations like PTCL and Wateen Telecom conducted Final VIVA of students and they were optimistic about student’s efforts.

The whole event was graced by Prof. Dr. Intesar Ahmed (HOD), Dr. Sadia Murawwat, Ms Nausheen Bilal and other faculty members .
 

Electrical Engineering Department Organized Google Event

Electrical Engineering Department Organized an event on ‘Introduction to all communities of Google, Gmail, Google plus (its social use) and Online Marketing mediums’ on 30th April,2014.

The speakers of the event were Mr. Ahmad Hayyat (CEO Softception) and Muhammad Armaghan Google student ambassador Pakistan. They also tell students “How to earn from Google”. In the interactive question answer sessions students were awarded by special Google goodies. Faculty and students of Engineering Department say thanks to speakers for sharing valuable information. At the end Head Electrical Engineering Department Prof.Dr Intesar Ahmed discuss about opportunities for their students during tea with the guests. 

RoboSprint14 National Education Campaign in Electrical Engineering Department

CASE institute Islamabad hosted a seminar in Electrical Engineering Department Lahore College for Women University under RoboSprint14 National Education Campaign in Robotics on 24th April,2014 in IT conference room. RoboSprint is an Annual Robotic Contest organized by CASE in different universities across Pakistan every year. RoboSprint is the largest National Education Campaign across Pakistan.
The seminars included basic to advance topics on Robotics that includes different software and hardware. This year, RoboSprint introduced Football in the theme and is merely an algorithmic work.  
Seminar includes some inspiring videos to boost the interest of Students in Robotics. It was of 3 hours that includes the following:

-- CASE Robotics Group
-- RoboSprint (Inspiration, Motivation, Vision, Theme)
-- Intro To Robotics and how to work in RoboSprint
-- Introduction to Ubuntu and how to things work in it
-- SSL Vision (The Primary software used for RoboSprint'14)
-- GR-SIM (The Software used for simulation of Robots for RoboSprint'14)
-- Artificial Intelligence

Apart from these topics they also motivate the students with some Robotics work done by CASE Robotics Group in the form of some videos. The team compromise of highly skilled professionals in Robotics who have been representing Pakistan at various robotics Competitions.

After this informative session students of Electrical Engineering Department were very passionate to participate in this international event. 

Awareness Seminar and Energy Audit

The Department of Electrical Engineering intends to carry out the Energy Audit of Lahore College for Women University and suggest the measures that can be taken to reduce the energy consumption within the available resources. For this purpose the department and 'ENERCON' The Nation Energy conservation centre, Islamabad conducted a Seminar on it.

The experts from ENERCON has delivered an awareness lecture on Energy Audit Tools and Techniques and visit LCWU whole electricity network on Thursday 24 January, 2013.

''Tower Antenna Control System'' in Plan9

Final Year students of Electrical Engineering Department Zermina Niaz, Sobia Nawaz and Zunaira Abbas shortlisted for presenting their Business Plan of ''Tower Antenna Control System'' in Plan9 by PITB.



The students are strongly supported and encouraged by Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology Prof. Dr. Farhat Saleemi, Head of the department Dr. Intesar Ahmed and there project supervisor Ms Sahar Sultan.

This was phase II competitions where participants with 3 to 30 years of industrial and job experience come up with innovative business plans for the field of Information Technology, LCWU students were the youngest entrepreneur amongst all and their efforts were highly appreciated and supported by the board of experts.

IEEE Pakistan Student Congress

All Pakistan Student Congress PSC held in Ghulam Ishaq Khan University, Swabi. 39 students from Electrical Engineering Department LCWU participate in the Congress.



Maryam Zafar and Umber Shamshad from final year won 2nd Prize in “Social Innovative Contest”. Ms Sahar Sultan from Electrical Engineering Department and Dr Mohsin Nazir from Computer Science department escorted with the students.

Ms Sahar Sultan also given a seminar on “Engineering for Change” and she is awarded with the best seminar award. Amana Hanan and Ammara Awan from final year were runners up in Research and Development Project RDP competition.

Students of Lahore College for Women University learned a lot from all the events, seminars and technical workshops activities in the Congress.

TERM PROJECT EXHIBITION

Department of Electrical Engineering, Lahore College for Women University has organized two days project exhibition from 28th to 29th June, 2012. The event was conducted under supervision of Ms. Faiza Iftikhar, Ms. Ahlam and Mr. Usman Ghani.


The aim of this exhibition was to motivate the students to design solutions for the problems faced by Pakistan nation these days in daily life. For example Dengue, Power crisis, Agriculture, Traffic, Pollution and some of the domestic needs. The chief guest of the event was Prof. Dr. Farhat Saleemi, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Technology and Management Sciences, accompanied by Dr. Intesar Ahmed, Head of Electrical Engineering department. For the expert opinions, Dr. Sonia, Dr. Mohsin and Ms. Maria Saleemi from the Computer Sciences Department and Dr. Saffia from Physics Department had joined the event and gave valuable tips for further improvements in student’s projects.  The whole event was graced by Ms. Aqsa Shabbir, Ms. Nausheen Bilal, Ms. Sara and other faculty members.

RF Antenna’s and their Transmission & Receiving link testing

Electrical Engineering Department Lahore College for Women University Organizing one day hands on workshop for the final year students on "RF Antenna’s and their Transmission & Receiving link testing" on 21st June, 2012.

Mr. Imran Rasheed Chauhdry Senior RF engineer Cyber Net will give presentation and briefing on RF antenna and will practically demonstrate indoor/outdoor point to point RF link testing on REDLINE.
