A formal ceremony was held on 30th Nov,2015 in the Syndicate Hall, LCWU for the disbursement of Pakistan Scottish Scholarship Program and worth Rs 0.39, million were disbursed to 5 students of MS-II & MA TESOL . While addressing to the students, on the occasion Prof. Dr. Uzma Qureshi Vice Chancellor stated the university is thankful to Scottish Government and British Council for awarding scholarships to the financially constraints students. She also encouraged the students to pay full attention towards their study and empower themselves.
Lahore College for Women University, in continuation of MOU with UN Women, organized a fun fair to kick start the UN 16-Days of Activism to mark the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25th, 2015. A Fall Festival was organized to create maximum awareness amongst the students.
The festival was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Uzma Qureshi, Acting Vice Chancellor, Lahore College for Women University. She took a quick round of the stalls organized by students, faculty and various NGOs to encourage the participants.
From 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day, the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign is a time to galvanize action to end violence against women and girls around the world. The international campaign originated from the first Women's Global Leadership Institute coordinated by the Center for Women's Global Leadership in 1991. This year, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Campaign UNiTE to End Violence against Women theme was “Orange the world: End violence against women and girls”.
The fall festival was organized by Director Student Affairs in collaboration with Benazir Bhutto Chair and Director, Women Institute of Leadership and Learning. Various rides were set-up to attract the students. Food stalls along with other stalls were set up by students.
The festival was orange and white: the color of peace and UNITE campaign. The festival was attended by over 10,000 students and was a huge success.
Board of studies of Physics was held on Tuesday 24th November 2015 at Physics Department LCWU, Lahore under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Rehana Zia, HOD, and Physics. The respected external members were Prof. Dr. Shahzad Naseem, director of Centre for Solid State Physics, PU, Lahore, Prof. Dr. Salamat Ali, GCU, Lahore, Prof. Dr. Rehana Sharif, UET, Lahore as an expert attend the meeting. HOD’s of Physics from affiliated colleges and the senior members of Physics department also attended the meeting. The experts gave the authentic and valuable suggestions about thesis title and to update the curricula. Agenda items were discussed one by one and decisions were taken and approved.

November 23, 2015: The Centre for Career Counseling and Job Placement invited officials from the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants (ICMA) to deliver a Career Counseling Session regarding career prospects of CMA and ACMA profession. The guest speaker for the seminar was Ms. Kiran Hameed – Officer Admission and Career Counseling, ICMA, Lahore.
Ms. Kiran Hameed brought into our notice about the factors to be kept in consideration while choosing a career, she told students on how cost management accounting is a rewarding profession and what the diverse roles of this profession are. Questions/Answers session was also initiated. This seminar was specifically organized for the students of management sciences, economics, and commerce. Overall, the seminar was very informative and was much appreciated by the audience.
Management of Pakistan Girls Guide Association conducted a guiding orientation session for Intermediate Part-I and Part-II students on 23-11-2015 in the Students Service Centre between 11:30 to 12:30 p.m.
The session was presided over by the VC, LCWU whereas the following Dignitaries / Members of the Pakistan Girls Guide Association attended the session and talked to the students in a friendly environment. A large number of students were inspired to get registered with the Pakistan Girl Guide Association.

Dr. Asma Shahid Kazi conducted a workshop and served as a panelist on the topic “Teaching Grammar in EFL Contexts: Is there a right way?” at 31st International Conference " ELT Traditions and Innovations” hosted by Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers, held in Abbottabad from 21st to 22nd November.
Dr. Afifa Khanam presented a paper, “Morality or mechanics: A dilemma for educational leaders of 21st century” at the 4th Regional Conference on Educational Leadership and Management (RCELAM) 2015 held from 16 - 19 November 2015 at Institute Aminuddin Baki Genting Highlands Branch, Pahang, Malaysia.
Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization organized a seminar on “Total Quality Management (TQM) Implementation in Education”, for the students of faculty of Management & Administrative Sciences on 18th November, 2015 at Botany Seminar Room, LCWU. Mr. Attiq ur Rehman, Assistant Professor, MBA (marketing) – Gold Medalist, M.Phil (TQM) UVAS, Lahore was the guest speaker. He highlighted the importance of TQM, ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Quality Management System (QMS) and Six Sigma Black Belt (SSBB). He also focused on the outcome based learning processes in Higher Education institutions of Pakistan. Students from BBA, B.com and BPA departments of LCWU enthusiastically participated in this seminar. Prof. Dr. Kausar Malik (Director, ORIC-LCWU) concluded the seminar with vote of thanks.
Dr. Fathi El Ashry and Miss Shahida Maheen Pakistan Reading Project/USAID, visited Department of Professional Studies IOE, to monitor course changes and observe practicum students from B.Ed Semester III and VII on 17 November 2015. They also took interviews from the students and faculty members who are teaching the revised courses and content area courses of “Reading Instruction and Assessment Integration”.

“Use of mt COI sequences for the identification of subterranean termite species from Punjab, Pakistan” at the 63rd Annual Meeting of the Entomological Society of America (ESA) November 15-18, 2015, at the Minneapolis Convention Center, Minnesota. I won travel grant from HEC, Islamabad. I am also member of entomological society of America. My work on termites was highly appreciated and it positive experience of sharing research and collaborations with eminent entomologists of the world.
Social Work Department arranged a seminar on “Maternal and Child Health Care” With the collaboration of Maternity and Child Welfare Association of Pakistan (MCWAP) & Family Planning Association of Pakistan (FPAP) on 16th November, 2015 in IT Conference Room, LCWU.
The main objective of the seminar was to sensitize the students about the significance of maternal and infant health care.

Persian department with collaboration of Dabistan-e-Iqbal and Iran Culture Centre, Lahore organized a three days conference (from 10-12 Nov, 2015) on the completion of 100 years of Iqbal’s epic book Asrar-e-khudi.Political Science,Gendre Studies and Education departments of LCWU also collaborated Persian department in organizing this conference. On the 1st day a declamation contest was held among the students of LUMS, GCU, PU, LCWU and other institutions at Alhamra Arts Council. 2nd day had two sessions at Student Service Centre LCWU. Morning session started with recitation of Holy Quran. In this session various eminent personalities of Iran like Mr.Ali Akbar Barkhurdari (Director General of Iran Culture Centre, Lahore) Mr.Eisa Karimi (Councellor general of Iran in Islamabad) and Allama Iqbal’s family members like Mr. Iqbal Salah-ud-din(President Dabistan-e-Iqbal), Mr.Muneeb Iqbal(Vice President Iqbal Academy) and Justice (Rtd) Nasira Javeed Iqbal expressed their views about Asrar-e-khudi.Two famous irani poets Mr.Kumsari and Mr. Abdul Jabbar Kakai also graced the conference with their presence and then Dr.Faleeha Zahra Kazmi Head of Persian department, LCWU presented her welcome address and thanked the honorable guests. Professors from different Universities and Colleges presented their research article on Iqbal’s poetry and philosophy.
After the lunch the audience enjoyed the group performance of Persian department’s students on Iqbal’s poetry which was presented with music. A tablow was also presented by them on Iqbal’s poem “Insan aur Bazm-e-Qudrat” taken from “Bang-e-Dara”. The audience appreciated the performance of the students and was very much amused. At the end of the session Dr.Uzma Qureshi Worthy Vice Chancellor LCWU thanked the guests, appreciated Persian department’s effort and expressed her views about Iqbal and his poetry that Iqbal is no doubt a thinker, philosopher and poet of International fame and his philosophy of “khudi” i.e., “one’s knowledge of his own hidden potential “specially addresses the young generation then she awarded shields to the speakers and guests. On the third day Professors of Political Science and Education department presented their research articles on different aspects of Iqbal’s poetry.
Students of Political science and education department also presented their articles on Iqbal and recited Iqbal’s poetry in group and amused the audience. Last day of the conference also included a “Ghazal Night” held at Iran Culture Centre, Lahore in the Honour of Iranian poets. Dr.Safa Kazmiyan and some Pakistani poets, Scholars and students such as Dr.Syed Akram Shah Ikram, Prof Dr.Muhammad Nasir, Prof Dr.Iqbal Shahid, Dr.Faleeha Zahra Kazmi, Ms.Shabana Sahar, and Ms.Rabia Asif presented Persian poetry which was very much liked by both Irani and Pakistani audience. Closing session was followed by a very delightful Irani Pakistani dinner.
LAHORE: ‘Government needs to take steps to ensure food safety and hygiene at all levels of supply-demand chain,’ said Prof. Dr. Muhummad Saleem Haider, while addressing the students of Department of Botany in a lecture organized by Benazir Bhutto Chair in collaboration with Department of Botany on November 10th, 2015.
He said that the just checking the hygiene and safety of end products is not enough. He added that we need to start from the basic level of food supply and check how the produce is grown, how is it handled and transported before it reaches our homes and restaurants.
Prof. Dr. Muhummad Saleem Haider is the Director of Institute of Agricultural Sciences in Punjab University.
Fountain House, Lahore organized its 2ND ANNUAL CALLIGRAPHY ART COMPETITION 2015 on Tuesday 10th November. The Fountain House executive, Staff and members (patients) also Participated in this art event and hosted for about 150 students of different schools and universities. 1st, 2nd, 3rd and consolation prizes for each category were awarded to the winner students. Students of BFA-III and BFA-IV from the Institute of Visual Arts and Design Lahore College for Women University also participated in the competition. Among them, Samara Shahid student of BFA IV Calligraphy (Major) IVAD, LCWU was awarded with the consolation prize.
To be the part of this event was a different experience for Visual Art students because it was also an interactive and observatory session to understand the art works of the members (patients) of this organization that is working for the rehabilitation of the mentally retarded patients. Significantly this event provided a chance to the Visual Art students to gather some information about the Art Therapy, its impacts on the lives of these patients and how creative sense dynamically could be productive in the process of rehabilitation. ‘Art as Therapeutic Force’ could be fruitful for the research projects of students as well as will be helpful to broaden their knowledge to study another dimension of art…
After the Vice Chancellors approval our first step was to meet with the heads of the departments of Management Sciences and Mass Communications. Several aspects of a well-rounded team and their mentoring were discussed. The ORIC team then met with the students that were interested in participating and held sessions with them in the botany seminar room. After discussing their ideas the teams were made and students from both departments were paired together. Ms Mobina from the management sciences held a two hour session along with ORIC and guided and mentored them at the end of which we had two elaborate ideas. Since we had only two properly thought out ideas we decided to use them both since 3 submissions were to be made from each university. Both ideas which were finalized were as follows:
- Hydroponics on roof top
- GPS system to monitor the arrival timings of the public transport buses in Lahore
The students were guided through various details such as the material of the video and the filming of it was also monitored. ORIC was in constant communication with HEC and Pakathon Global officials. A rough draft of the videos was submitted on the 30th and they could be edited till the 4th of November so the final versions were uploaded then. The videos were power point presentations with voice overs.
Final round of Pakathon was held on 8th November, 2015 from 9pm-2am PST. The team working on the Hydroponics project got a call and made it to the finals in Toronto, Canada. Five teams from Pakistan (LCWU, NUST, IBA, and University of Malakand) were selected and a total of twelve teams participated in the competition. The team from LCWU participated through Skype. The video prepared by the team was shown at the event which then followed by the question and answer session by the panel of judges. The students answered the questions confidently. The teams who won had presented ideas related to social causes.
Dr. shahayar Talukdar is a renowned artist and art historian from Bangladesh. He joined IVAD for 4 months (August to November 2015) under HEC foreign faculty hiring program. He was engaged in giving instructions to MS students about the research methodology during his interim. He also became a resource person for a painting workshop during this period. His visit ended with a successful solo exhibition entitles as “Sound of the creative elements” on 4th November 2015 followed by a series of Lectures. Lectures were scheduled from 4th, 5th, 6th of November 2015 in the department of Visual Arts IVAD LCWU. Following is the details of lectures.

All faculty members of the institute and PhD scholars attended the workshop.
