Kabbadi Match Between Pakistan Green and Pakistan White Team

Physical Education Department and Sports Board Punjab organized a friendly Kabbadi match between Pakistan Green and Pakistan White team on 2nd December, 2014 at 12:00 PM in the Main Hockey Ground of LCWU. The chief guest was Director Sports from Punjab Sports Board. Pakistan Green team won the match.

HEC Declamation Contest

English and Urdu Debating Society organized the initial round of HEC Declamation Contest on 28th November, 2014 in IT Seminar Hall. Fatima Latif from English Department and Rukhsar Fatima from Education Department won 1st positions in English and Urdu debate respectively.

Inter-Faith Harmony

Human Rights Commission of Pakistan organized a videography contest for universities and colleges in Punjab and held a prize distribution ceremony on 28th November, 2014. LCWU, BNU, NCA, PU, FC College, GCU and many other institutions participated in the competition. The Department of Mass communication, LCWU, won 2nd prize for their short film “The Faces” (depicting women) and 3rd prize for their film “Inter-faith Harmony” in peace category.

Violence against Women

The Women Institute of Leadership and Learning (WILL) organized a seminar and theatre performance on the theme “Violence against Women” in collaboration with Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) on 26th November, 2014 at 10:30 AM in Student Service Centre. The following guest speakers were present at the event:

•    Ms. Fouzia Waqar (Chairperson, Provincial Commission on the Status of Women)
•    Mr. Salman Abid (Regional Head, SPO)

Elimination of Violence against Women

On 25th November, 2014, Lahore College for Women University celebrated International Day for the “Elimination of Violence against Women” and organized a day-long festival, to mark the beginning of 16 Days of Activism culminating in the “Human Rights Day” on 10th December, 2014 in collaboration with UN Women.
Begum Parveen Sarwar, wife of the Chancellor and Governor Punjab was the chief guest of the event. The fun fair was a mix of the right amount of fun and thought provoking elements to get the message across to maximum number of young girls. Various guest speakers were invited to share their views on elimination of violence against women. A Raffle Draw was also arranged at the end of the day.

Punjabi Poetic Symposium (Mushaira)

Punjabi Department, LCWU, organized a Punjabi Poetic Symposium (Mushaira) on 20th November, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the IT Seminar Hall. Dr. Kausar J. Cheema graced the event as chief guest along with a number of honorable poets as special guests and participants.

Violence against Women

An inter class Mushaira was conducted by Halqa e Bazme Mushaira LCWU under Urdu department on the theme of "Violence against Women" at IT Seminar Hall on 19th November 2014. Students recited their own writings on this theme. Director Student Affairs, Ms. Shireen Asad, was the chief guest of this contest. Judges of this contest were Mrs Alia Farooq, Dr Taqdees Zahra and Mrs Rohina Jafri. Zoya Iqbal and Taiba Sohail won 1st and 2nd position in Ghazal Round whereas Shaiza Yameen, Zoya Iqbal and Aqsa Khalid won 1st, 2nd and 3rd position in Nazm Round respectively.

Role of Women in the Development of Pakistan

Urdu Debating Society organized a debating competition on the theme of “Role of Women in the Development of Pakistan” on 17th November, 2014 at 01:00 PM. Judges were Mrs. Alia Farooq and Dr. Hina Kanwal from the department of Urdu. Anum Shehzadi, Iqra Aleem and Yusra Sadiq won 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

Tribute to the Great Poet Allama Iqbal

Persian Department (Iqbal Society), LCWU, organized a musical and literary tribute to the great poet Allama Iqbal in celebration of his birthday on 13th November, 2014 at 11:00 AM in IT Seminar Hall in collaboration with Dabistan-e-Iqbal. Justice Retd. Nasira Javed Iqbal graced the event as chief guest along with other honorable guests such as Mr. Iqbal Salahuddin (Grandson of Allama Iqbal), Prof. Dr. Nasir (Chairperson Firdousi Chair, PU), and Ms. Hina Nasar Ullah (famous singer).

Tribute and Commemorate the Poet of the East

Urdu Literary Society, LCWU, organized an event to pay tribute to and commemorate the Poet of the East on 12th November, 2014 at 02:00 PM in the Main Hockey Ground. Many significant literary personalities were invited to the event. Stalls were set up to display CDs and books of the work of Allama Iqbal and his biographies. To add the element of entertainment, Iqbal’s words were performed through music and melody.

Awareness Seminar on Fake Currency Notes in collaboration with the State Bank of Pakistan

Awareness Program for Combating Fake Currency Notes

The Directorate of Student Affairs, Lahore College for Women University arranged a Public Awareness Program for Combating Fake Currency Notes in collaboration with the Currency Management and Accounts Unit, State Bank of Pakistan.

Ms. Summaira Kaleem and Ms. Kanwal Amin, Senior Assistant Currency Officers at the Currency Management and Accounts Unit, State Bank of Pakistan were the guest speakers for the seminar who thoroughly explained to the students the differences between a forged currency note and an original one. The technicalities of designing and printing currency notes were told to the students.

The speakers gave three basic features on which counterfeit currency can be differentiated from the original notes, namely; Paper Feature, Design Feature and Ink Feature. Though some of the security features are microscopic but there were quite a handful of features that are easily visible to the naked eye.  

Student from the departments of Political Science, Social Work, Economics and the Student Council attended the seminar.
It was said that the need to create awareness regarding counterfeit currency among the masses has reached a high level. Measures like these can help create awareness in the young people through which the information can be delivered across a large number of people.

Seminar on Career Counselling for Talent Development

“The knowledge we possess and the choices we make reflect the person we are.” CEO LXY Global, Mr. Yousuf Jamshaid said these words during an interactive session with the students of Management Sciences at the seminar for Career Counselling and Mentoring for Training and Talent Development arranged by the Directorate of Student Affairs, Lahore College for Women University here on Tuesday.

Waving his magic wand, Mr. Jamshaid involved his audience into a highly interactive and informative session while utilizing his expertise to uplift human beings by capitalizing their strengths. Apart from being the CEO of LXY Global Mr. Jamshaid is the Team Lead for Career Counselling and Mentoring for Training and Talent Development Committee at Lahore Chamber of Commerce.  He made the students realize the difference between “Does it even Matter?” and “It Matters A Lot”. Mr. Jamshaid stressed the need for acquiring as much information as possible and declared knowledge to be the key to a successful career. With that he also said that experience through internships counts a lot in a professional career and he asked the students to look around for internships and take in every opportunity that comes their way. He advised students to read, explore and get to know about the world they live in. Taking the lecture further he guided students to opt for the most suitable career taking into account their potentials and skills and added that the choice of career determines most of your life.

Students had a very interesting and fruitful question and answer session at the end of the lecture.

Ms. Talat Shahid, Head of Management Sciences Department, Ms. Shireen Asad, Director Student Affairs and representatives from the Student Council attended the seminar.

The seminar was intended for the capacity building of students which resonates with the vision of LCWU of producing highly skilled, professionally empowered, well groomed and value driven women to make a positive difference in the socio-economic development of Pakistan.

Give the Gift of Life, Donate Blood!!!

The Directorate of Student Affairs and the Physics Department, LCWU, organized a Blood Donation Camp in collaboration with Sundas Foundation to help children suffering from Thalassaemia, Hemophilia and Leukemia. The students of LCWU showed remarkable interest and enthusiasm and donated more than 50 blood bags for this noble cause.

Sales & Promotion Activity by Servis Pvt Ltd

Servis Private Limited organized a sales promotion activity in collaboration with the Directorate of Student Affairs from 16th to 20th September 2013. The students and faculty showed great interest in the activity and purchased a large number of shoes in discounted prices. Servis private Limited is a renowned company in Pakistan and they were overwhelmed by the response of LCites. Moreover, they have pledged 12% of their profit for the Student Endowment Fund of LCWU.

Fund Raising Activity by Fountain House

A team from Fountain House Lahore organized a fund raising activity for the construction of Fountain House Sargodha. A stall was set up with posters and volunteers from Fountain House engaged with students to increase awareness about the need of another Fountain House in Sargodha. The students contributed generously for the noble cause.

Skin Care Seminar

Johnson & Johnson Pakistan organized a skin care seminar on 10th of October 2013. A large number of students attended the seminar followed by a free sampling and face washing activity.

Poster Exhibition on Child Abuse

The Directorate of Student Affairs organized an awareness raising walk and poster exhibition on child abuse. a large number of students participated in the activity. Posters were displayed in the Bushra Mateen Building depicting sad realities of child abuse in our society. Vice Chancellor LCWU, Dr Sabiha Mansoor visited the exhibition and encouraged the students for their efforts and talent.

Seminar 0n- Nuclear and Radiation Safety

 The Directorate of Student Affairs organized a seminar on “Nuclear and Radiation Safety” on November 20th, 2012 in the Siraj-ud-Din Committee Room in collaboration with the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority.


The speaker for the first session was Mr. Asad Ijaz, Sr. Scientific Officer at PNRA. Mr. Zia Hussain Shah, Director Centre for Nuclear Safety, PNRA was the speaker for second session. It was a very informative seminar that covered vast topics like “Regulating Nuclear Power Plants in Pakistan” and “Application of Radiations in Daily Life; Its Hazards ad Protection”. The Lecture was followed by an interactive question and answer session in which students asked very useful and relevant questions. The speakers appreciated the involvement of students and thanked the administration with the promise of organizing such seminars in future on a large scale.

 

Convocation 2012

The Student Council actively assisted in the management of the 9th Convocation of the university held on 20th January, 2012. Maintaining proper discipline was the key responsibility of the on duty council members under the supervision of senior staff members.

Geo Awam ki Adalat

The members of the Student Council attended the Geo Television Network Program “Awam ki Adalat” and confidently shared their views.

Seminar on “Vote Awareness”

The Council members participated in a seminar on “Voter Awareness and Responsibilities” organized by Lahore Grammar School on 23rd February, 2012 to spread awareness about the rights and responsibilities of voters.

Laptop Distribution Ceremony

The council members participated in the organization and management of laptop distribution ceremony by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, held on 26th March, 2012. Miss Maryam Nawaz was the Chief Guest of the ceremony.

Traffic Awareness Seminar

In collaboration with City Traffic Wardens, the council members organized a successful seminar on “Traffic Awareness” on 4th April, 2012.

International College Fair

The council members attended the International College Fair held on 12th April, 2012 at Forman Christian College, Lahore.

UK University Day

The Student Council assisted the Faculty Development Centre in organizing the UK University Day, held on 18th April, 2012.

Intermediate Welcome/Farewell party

The Student Council arranged a welcome and farewell party for intermediate classes on 27th April, 2012.

Child Care Foundation

The Student Council actively organized and participated in the Child Care Foundation Seminar held on 3rd May, 2012.

Skin Care Day with Pharma Health (Pvt) Limited

The Student Council organized a Skin Care Day in collaboration with Pharma Health Pakistan (Pvt) Limited, on 1st June, 2012 at the Student Service Center Seminar Hall, Lahore College for Women University. A presentation on skin problems was given by renowned dermatologists, including Dr. Masood Sohail, Dr. Aasim S. Mullick, Dr. Shama and Dr. Fouzia followed by a free consultation session. Pharma Health Company displayed their products which were for sale as well. They also distributed free samples amongst the faculty who attended and on duty council members. The activity was a huge success amongst the students and faculty members since skin problems are rampant in the summer season. There was a huge demand for a similar activity to be organized in the near future.

Annual Dinner 2012 of the Student Council

The Student Council organized the Annual Dinner 2012 under the patronage of the university administration on 1st June, 2012, in the main hockey ground, LCWU. The event began with the arrival of the chief guest, Dr. Sabiha Mansoor VC LCWU, who was warmly welcomed by the students and senior faculty. The council members enthusiastically participated in activities such as slideshow presentations and a singing gala which received tremendous appreciation from the Vice Chancellor as well as the senior faculty present. The Student Council was over whelmed by the love and support extended to them by Dr. Sabiha Mansoor.

Punjab Youth Policy Launching Ceremony on 6th June, 2012

The Student Council arranged a visit of around 300 university students and senior teachers to attend the launching ceremony of the Punjab Youth Policy 2012 by the Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif. Different politicians also addressed the students, and renowned singers performed at the occasion to entertain and motivate the audience.
