Body fluids: Blood, Formed elements of blood, Plasma, Plasma proteins, Haemoglobin synthesis and degradation, blood coagulation, Urine composition, normal and abnormal constituents of urine, CSF composition.
Immune system: immunoglobulins, structure and classification, immune response, T and B lymphocytes, complement system.
Biochemistry Techniques: chromatography, Paper chromatography, column chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, affinity chromatography, ELISA, RIA, gel electrophorosis, western blotting.
Industrial biochemistry: Fungi and Parokaryotes uses in industry, Industrial production of lactic acid, vinegar, ethyl alcohol and monosodium glutamate using microorganisms, Bacterial uses in food industry for milk and meat perservation and processing, or in washing powder industry.
This course is aimed to deliver comprehensive knowledge regarding the biochemistry of blood, plasma and CSF. The course also emphasizes on the immune system which elaborate the antigens and antibodies structure, functions and complement system. Furthermore, techniques used in biochemistry lab such as chromatography and its types, electrophorosis and ELISA. And update knowledge of microorganisms uses in industry.
Course Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will have a deep knowledge of body fluids, immune system, techniques used in biochemistry lab, and microbes applications in industry.
