1. Separation and identification of three component mixture.
2. Qualitative chromatography; thin layer chromatography, column chromatography, preparative thick layer chromatography.
3. Extraction techniques; (Soxhlet Apparatus)
Extraction of limonene from orange peel.
Extraction of eugeuol from cloves.
4. Multi step synthesis:
P-nitro-aniline from aniline.
Benzilic acid from benzaldehyde
This practical course includes separation of organic compounds from a mixture of three components, chromatography and its uses in separation is also a part of this course. Extraction techniques is a very useful method to separate the natural products from plant sources.
Multi step synthesis is a key part of synthetic chemistry so in this course few multi step synthesis is also designed.
Course Learning Outcomes
To learn separation techniques such as extraction, chromatography techniques.
To understand the separation of organic compounds through Qualitative Analysis and use of different tests to identify through functional group identification.
The aim of this course is to teach synthesis of a compound by Multi-step synthesis.
paa nitro aniline from acetanalide
Aniline to Acetanalide
acetanalide to nitro acetanalide
Soxhlet apparatus setup
