Course Synopsis

The course consists of study of nature of bonding in metal complexes. Several theories including VBT, MOT, CFT will be studied in detail. Magnetic properties and color of the complexes will be explained. Metal carbonyls and metal nitrosyls will be studied in detail. EAN rule will be applied to these structures.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students would have understood the structure of metal complexes, their physical and chemical properties with respect to basic theories of bonding. They would have grasped the bonding in metal carbonyls, pi back bonding and nature of metal ligand bond.
