-
Pakistan was the first country to adopt SDGs 2030 agenda through a unanimous resolution of the Parliament of Pakistan. Pakistan has prioritized the SDGs which will enable us to join the league of upper middle-class countries by 2030 and for that we need more research and more informed policy. This conference will be an important milestone for achieving this objective.
-
The 2030 Agenda and the SDGs set a very ambitious vision for what humanity needs to accomplish by the year 2030. With just 9 years left, the UN has declared a Decade of Action; with an urgent call for accelerating efforts towards achieving the SDGs. Fundamental to these efforts is the awareness and dialogue to tackling global challenges and achieving the SDGs. The conference will be an important step towards this dialogue and is being held by collaboration of SDG units of governments Punjab and Pakistan and will deepen our understanding of the pathways that may contribute to SDGs.
-
SDGs are a relatively neglected area of emphasis in mainstream research in Pakistan. There is a dire need for creating awareness about and promotion of research in various SDGs. It is very important for the Pakistani academic community to assess the current state of the SDGs in the country and highlight its potential contributions to a better world. It is clear that the link between knowledge and action is not automatic, and needs to be cultivated, supported and steered to where it is most needed. The collaboration developed among researchers and policymakers by this conference will help bridge the gap.
-
The conference aims to provide a platform for academic community to get exposed to international research in the SDGs and highlight the various ways in which academics can help in achieving SDGs. This will provide them ideas for future research, allow them to interact and socialize with world-renowned researchers and professionals and enable research collaborations and further research alliances.
-
The conference will bring together the global experience and expertise of using universities as a way of achieving SDGs. Thus the conference in its broadest sense will include training and capacity building, communication and creating public awareness, scientific research, sharing and access to information and networking; emphasizing partnerships as a key strategy for achieving the SDGs.
