Brief Statement of Research Interest
I have been working as a Plant Molecular Taxonomist since 2001, following the completion of my MS from Quaid-e-Azam University. During my MS studies, I had the opportunity to interact with scientists from TASO-PGR, which sparked my interest in ethnobotany and the taxonomy of medicinal plants. My Ph.D. project, titled “Taxonomic and Biochemical Studies of Medicinally Important Species of the Family Solanaceae from Pakistan,” focused on the crucial role of plant photochemistry in plant-to-plant and plant-to-human interactions. I researched the allopathic behavior of medicinally important plants.
In 2011, I was awarded the TWAS-CAS postdoctoral fellowship, which allowed me to explore the genetics of the genus Epimedium using EST and genomic SSR techniques. I believe, the sustainable utilization of natural resources is essential for human survival on Earth. To enhance sustainable utilization, my current research focuses on the cultivation, genetic diversity exploration, and post-harvest treatment of functional foods to extend their shelf life.
