    Rules


    Examination Systems


    There are two types of examination systems in Lahore College for Women University, Lahore. The Semester System in four year BS and two year MS program in all disciplines and annual system in departments of Fine Arts and Design & Visual Arts and Pharmacy. Passing marks are 50%.

    1. Annual System

      At the end of academic year, there will be send-up examination to be followed by final annual examination in these three departments.

    1. Semester System
    2. i) There are eight semesters in four years Bachelor Degree Programme. Students shall be evaluated in each course on the basis of class tests, assignments, quizzes, lab reports, Mid term and Final term examinations. A student shall be eligible to appear in the Final Term semester examination provided that she has attended not less than 80% of the lectures delivered in each course and 80% of the practicals / laboratory demonstrations prescribed for the respective courses.
    3. ii) Grade Point Average (GPA) is earned on a scale of 0 to 4. The GPA is determined on the following formula:

                                                   Total Grade Points x Credit Hours

                                   GPA    =     ------------------------------------------------------

                                                       Total Credits attempted

    iii) The students acquiring 2.00 GPA in a semester and passing in all papers will be declared pass and promoted to the next semester.

    1. iv) The students acquiring less than 2.00 GPA in a semester but passing in all papers will be promoted with the condition to achieve more than 2.0 GPA in the next semester and she will be put on probation for the next semester.
    2. v) The students acquiring GPA 1.7 and above but failing in any paper(s) will be placed on probation and promoted to the next semester conditionally. They will be registered for summer semester during the summer vacation after payment of    Rs. 2000/- per course as course registration fee.
    3. vi) Students acquiring GPA less than 1.7 and failing in any paper(s) even after attending summer semester for one academic year will not be allowed to attend the classes of the next semester. They will be dropped from university rolls. However, they will be eligible to take re-admission. Re-admission will be allowed only once during 4 years BS degree program and two years MS Program.

    vii) Students on probation in two consecutive semesters even after attending Summer Semester in one academic year will take re-admission in that particular academic year once only.

    viii) There will be maximum two academic probations in four-year Bachelor degree program. Both the probations can not be granted / availed in first four semesters. A student who is on probation 2nd time even after attending summer semester in first four semesters shall be removed form rolls of university / colleges. However, she can take re-admission only once during 4 years BS degree program.

    1. ix) In case of valid reason / excuse, the period of study may be extended for one additional year (Two Semesters) in all university programs. The student(s) who will not complete studies within stated periods including extension shall be struck off from the rolls of the university. The students who have been given the right to extend the duration of study for one additional year are required to pay new registration fee alongwith normal fee for that academic year.
    2. x) Freezing of first two semesters for BS and first semester for MS is not allowed.
    3. xi) It is compulsory to take 25% marks in Mid Term Examinations and 50% marks in aggregate to qualify a course. It is also mandatory to obtain at least 50% marks in Practical, Projects and Thesis.

    EXAMINATION RULES FOR PHARM-D

    Approved from Pharmacy Council of Pakistan

    For Doctor of Pharmacy Degree Course (Regulations, 2005, Chapter-VI)

     Objectives of evaluation through examinations:-

    (1) Evaluation shall be an essential part of the education process. There should be regular internal evaluations. Students should be evaluated in all the three cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains as specified in Chapter II. All pharmacy institutions should uniformly apply the principles of internal evaluations.

    (2) The purpose of evaluation through examination should be-

     (a)   to give feed back to students about their understanding of the course material. This purpose can be achieved by regular internal evaluation of students concerning each assignment or course of study;

    (b)   to certify that students have successfully completed the training and have achieved the objectives of educational programme;

    (c)   to determine the success of  teaching programme; and

    (d)   to motivate and encourage students to direct their own learning.

     (3)  In order to achieve the objectives of evaluation through examinations, it shall be mandatory to adopt the following processes, namely:-

     (a)   Continuous internal evaluation should consist of examination at the end of each assignment, term or course of study;

    (b)    proper records of internal evaluations should be maintained.

    (c)    scores obtained in internal evaluation should contribute towards the real assessment of annual/semester examination;

    (d)    no student shall be promoted to the Second Professional without passing the first Professional examination in all subjects;

    (e)    any student who fails to pass the first Professional examination in five chances availed or un-availed, shall cease to pursue further pharmacy education.

    (f)     no student shall be eligible for a university examination without having attended seventy five per cent of the lectures and practicals;

    (g)     whatever may be the system of marking, for all examinations throughout Doctor of Pharmacy Degree Course,  the percentage of pass marks in each subject should not be less than fifty per cent in theory and practical;

    (h)    no grace mark should be allowed in any examination;

    (i)     there should not be more than two Professional examinations in a year;

    (j)     40% of the written examinations should consist of multiple choice questions (MCQs), and the rest 60% of the short structured essays, extended essays, etc;

    (k)     external examiners should always be associated with local or internal examiners for the written, oral and practical parts of Professional examination;

    (l)      a student who appears for examination in any subject and passes in theory but fails in practical or vice versa, shall reappear only in theory or, as the case may be, in practical in which he fails;

    (m)     a student who appears for examination in any subject and fails both in theory as well as practical, shall have to reappear in both theory and practical; and a student who appears in a Professional examination and passes in one or more subjects shall not have to reappear for examination in such subjects provided that he passes the subjects in which he fails in a stipulated time period.

    Passing Percentage

    1. Semester System

    It is compulsory to take 25% marks in Midterm examinations and 50% marks in aggregate to qualify a course. It is also mandatory to obtain at least 50% marks in practical, project and thesis separately

    1. BFA

    A minimum of 50% marks in the course work are required to be eligible to appear for final examination.

    Pass Percentage

    Core courses = 50%

    Compulsory courses = 40%

    (Compulsory courses includes English, Islamiat and Pakistan studies).

     Approval of Failure Status in B.F.A (Annual System)

     In annual examination of B.F.A, three subject failures will be allowed to appear in supplementary examination and more than three subject failures were dropped.

    1. Pharm-D

    Pass Percentage

    Core courses = 50%

    Compulsory courses = 50%

    Practical = 50%
