One-Day Teachers Training Workshop “On increasing child sexual abuse in Pakistan and Role of Academia in training adolescents about self-protection”
Monday 26th August 2019:Department Gender and Development studies LCWU organized One-Day Teachers Training Workshop on increasing child sexual abuse in Pakistan and role of academia in training adolescents about self-protection, in collaboration with Pakistan Girls Guide Association and sponsored by Creative Alley on Monday 26th August 2019. Almost 40 plus people attended in workshop including participants, volunteers, internees, Pakistan Girls Guide staff members, executives and trainers of workshop.
In first session, Trainer Muniza Javed (Visiting Lecturer) from Lahore College for Women University gave a brief introduction about the agenda of teachers training workshop, the aims and objectives and the pivotal role of teachers in training adolescents about self-protection from child sexual abuse. Furthermore, she discussed the religious aspect of providing sexual education to adolescents and children to protect them from sexual abuse including sex education myths and realities, sex education in Islamic countries and sex education according to Islamic perspective along with awareness videos.
After that Ms. Salma Sajjad, Pakistan Girls Guide Association gave a briefing about Pakistan Girls Guide Association working and what role they are performing to provide sexual education to adolescents.
In second session, Ms. Asma Seemi Malik, Assistant Professor, Gender and Development Studies Dept. LCWU talked about Social and Cultural aspect of providing sexual education to children for self-protection including child sexual abuse an increasing social problem in Pakistan facts, figures, and laws, Teaching children to protect themselves and disclose abuse, preparing children for everyday life and identifying, preventing and stopping sexual abuse.
Urza Umer Representator from Creative Alley team and project manager girly things gave a comprehensive description about Creative Alley and girly things work.
In third session, Dr. Subha Malik, Head of Department, Gender and Development Studies, LCWU talked about psychological aspect of providing sexual education to children for self-protection including a video message, what psychology says about training adolescents for self-protection from sexual abuse, how it will be beneficial.
In fourth session, Ms. Farah Adil, Lecturer, Gender and Development Studies Dept, LCWU talked about Role of curriculum in eliminating Child Sexual Abuse along with an activity to boost the energy of the participants.
The workshop formally ended with Forum open for discussion and question answers, feedback recording and distribution of certificates to participants, volunteers, internees and trainers with token of thanks.
