HESSA Student Support Services: Component C
Student Leadership and Programming
Lahore College for Women University is home to several student societies, all of which actively engage students to provide a holistic education that does not focus solely on teaching. HESSA trainings enable the undersigned to streamline the already existing University societies and officially register them. Initially a policy document was written and approved by the Competent Authority for the greater benefit of University student service section. It was a big initiative as there was no such precedent in LCWU to formally acknowledge and strengthen University Student bodies to harness the capabilities and abilities of our current and aspiring students.
A thorough planning and many deliberations paved the way to carry out this herculean task smoothly. As a result of the registration drive over 30 student societies were registered. This was a historic moment in the history LCWU where such large numbers of societies got registered, and were allotted their registration numbers/ IDs with certificate in a big ceremony attended by the Vice Chancellor and senior management of the University.
Ice-breaking activities and trainings help bridge the gap between administration and students, which in turn encourages council members to mobilize their fellow students for co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Council members’ active engagement with university activities equips them with life skills that allow them to become pillars of society. The DSA regularly holds meetings with the council, which includes Class Representatives, Society Presidents, Society Secretaries and members of the Executive Council. The goal is to encourage students’ participation in leadership activities and to take the lead in different projects.
