The inception of the Political Science Department, LCWU can be traced back to the pre-partition period when Miss Dooha single handedly imparted instruction in the subjects of Civics and Indian History. Later Mrs. Maqbool Hassan joined as the first lecturer in Political Science. By this time the college had shifted to its present building. Mrs. Mohsin, Miss Zohra Shah Mohammad and Mrs. Parveen Hassan further uplifted the department by popularizing the subject as one of the important disciplines in the Humanities group of studies. However the year 1979 was milestone in the history of the Department because postgraduate classes were introduced in the college and a full fledge department with exclusive responsibilities was established.
The Department began to offer Master degree program in Political Science, later the Master degree programs in Pakistan Studies and International Relations were also started in 1999 and 2005 respectively. Afterwards in 2005, Four Years BS Program in Political Science/ International Relation/Pakistan Studies and Ph.D. program in Political Science were initiated. In 2010 MS Political Science was also commenced.
The department also owes gratitude to eminent professors like Miss Shamim Iqbal Butt, Miss Tahira Bashir, Mrs. Shamsi Hassan, Mrs. Nasreen Javeed and Miss Shaista Wyne who contributed towards the progress of the department.
