It is usual that great scholars sometimes gift their personal collections of books to institutional libraries. Such collections gifted to this library are;
Dr.S.M.Akhtar’s Collection
This collection belonged to eminent economist late Dr.S.M.Akhtar and was gifted by his family in 2001. It has 187 books. The collection covers valuable titles of literature & social science and is a good source of research reference.
Dr.Haq Nawaz Shah’s Collection
The library received this collection in 2009 from Mrs. Haq Nawaz Shah. It has about 206 books on different subjects. Our scholars and teachers value this donation.
National Book Foundation has also been a benevolent donor for quite a number of years & has contributed towards the enrichment of our library.
Special Collection
Beside personal collection, Special Collection has been developed in the library in 2008. This section includes very old and rare books on various subjects in Hindi. These books are arranged in a separate room. The readers are allowed to use these books within the library premises.
1.No member shall be entitled to receive the funds (Pension, GF in case of employees and degree certificate in case of students) unless she produces the Clearance Certificate from the Library.
2.Member(s), intending to obtain clearance shall apply in advance so that the Library staff can properly check whether the concerned member has returned all the books borrowed by her or has paid the price of books lost or damaged by her.
1. Books published before 1940 will not be issued. An interested scholar might read them in the library and might get the needed reference photocopied.
2. Books lost, damaged or mutilated in any way will have to be replaced or paid for. The cost of such books shall be double/triple/four times the prevailing cost vide DPI Punjab‘s letter No. 10560-67/ DDI; dated 22-03-1999. The Librarian shall decide the price of rare book(s) and get it approved by the Vice Chancellor.
3. If a volume of a set/series is damaged by a user and is not available separately, the whole set will have to be replaced or paid for by the person concerned.
4. If any member leaves the university without returning book(s) borrowed from the library, the price of the book(s) will be adjusted against her security dues with the university.
Library Services:
Circulation Service
This section plays an important role for providing the books to readers. The readers can contact the librarian for library membership, fine and clearance etc.In this section books are organized according to Dewey’s Decimal Classification Scheme and shelved subject wise according to call numbers (100-999).
Orientation program
The library provides a wide range of user education programs. Orientation programmes are conducted at the time of fresh admissions every year.
Catalogue Services
The Catalogue is key of library. The Complete catalogue of library books is available for use by library members.
Reference Services
Its function is to answer the reader's reference questions. It also answers the questions as like who is who, what is what, how and where etc, to save the precious time of the users. The reference tools like encyclopedias, dictionaries atlases etc, are placed in this section. These books can be consulted within the library. The services related to online resources have also been introduced to facilitate the users.
CAS / SDI Services
This library also offers current awareness services (CAS) and selective dissemination information (SDI) to its readers.
Digital Library Facility
Digital library facility is also available for users benefit.
Photocopying Services
This facility is available in the main as well as in Departmental Libraries.
