Data Visualization, Simulation & Optimization of Generalized Linear Models through Mathematica

Workshop Report ‘Data Visualization, Simulation & Optimization of Generalized Linear Models through Mathematica’ by LISA-LCWU

LISA-LCWU organized its first one-week workshop on ‘Data Visualization, Simulation & Optimization of Generalized Linear Models through Mathematica’ from 24th to 28th February, 2020, under the umbrella of Statistics department LCWU and in collaboration with LISA 2020 network.

The resource person for the workshop was Dr. Sharqa Hashmi (Assistant Professor, LCWU, Lahore). The workshop was well attended by MS and BS Statistics students and faculty members of LCWU, Lahore, Pakistan.
The objective of the workshop was to familiarize students and faculty members with the application of the statistical software, Mathematica. It aimed to inform participants regarding the usage of the software efficiently. The workshop was conducted at two levels. The first level included, ‘Introduction’, ‘Data Visualization & Simulation’ and ‘Derivatives, Integration and handling equation’. The 2nd level included, ‘Generalized Linear Models’, and ‘Optimization & Likelihood’. The workshop may prove to be very helpful for attendees in their research work.

The closing ceremony was held on Feb 28th, 2020. Professor Dr. Ayesha Roohi (Former- Head of the department) was the chief guest of the event. At the end of the event, the participants were awarded the certificates.
In closing ceremony, Dr. Asifa Kamal (member LISA 2020) as coordinator of LISA-LCWU explained the role of LISA 2020 network
of statistics and data science collaboration laboratories (“stat labs”). She told that these stat labs can be Engines for Development by training the next generation of collaborative statisticians and data scientists through teaching short courses and workshops to improve statistical skills and data literacy. Another objective of LISA-LCWU is to provide statistical consultancy to researchers and government or Non-government organizations. She also shared future plans of LISA-LCWU to conduct more workshops for the capacity building and training of students and faculty members of LCWU under the umbrella of Statistics Departments. She emphasized the importance of trainings in building statistical analysis capacity
Ms. Mahnaz Makhdum, Head of Department, gave a vote of thanks in which she thanked the participants for their cooperation and LISA-LCWU for organizing a successful event with the help of Statistical Society.
