Department of Physics, Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Lahore, Pakistan organized 3rd international webinar on ‘Madam Curie of Current Era (MCCE, 21)’ held on 24th-26th August 2021. According to The UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) data, women’s contribution is less than 30% in the world’s researchers. Focusing the enlarged gender gap and the concealed status of women in socio-economic development, specifically the gender equality in science and technology, Physics department of LCWU has taken a step to promote females in scientific community by conducting a webinar. This webinar is part of events planned for100 years celebrations.
In this webinar, International and National female speakers participated. These speakers were senior physicist, Chemists, biologist, food technologists and scientists belonging to United states of America, United Kingdom, Australia, China, Malaysia and China. The Alumni of LCWU were Prof. Dr. Shazia Bashir, Dr. Tayabba Zafar, Dr. Iqra Hameed, Dr. Shabana Nisar, Prof. Dr. Rehana Sharif. All the speakers delivered very informative talks. The webinar served a reference material for the scientific community in highlighting women’s empowerment, as well their role in science. The webinar was blend of a young researchers and eminent scientists, which predicts status of the participation of women in higher education (as students, faculty or managers) in Pakistan and all over the world where gender-based inequalities persist.
The webinar will lead to productive collaboration of LCWU with international universities in academics and research.
