 Four day Training on “Increasing Mental Health Awareness, Prevention and Treatment Skills”

HESSA has organized four day training on “Increasing Mental Health Awareness, Prevention and Treatment Skills” from February 19-22, 2024 at IBA, Karachi. The major focus of the training is on three areas: Micro-counseling Skills, Career Counseling and Understanding Trauma.Mental Health Training

1.    Micro-Counseling Skills are those skills which will take major stake holders which are teachers on board. These skills will bridge the gap between students, teachers and counseling services. It will help to reduce stigma attached to mental health services and will improve referral to Career Guidance and Counseling Centre. These skills will help teachers to promote wellbeing among students.

Training was arranged for teachers from different faculties and departments and a training for student council members will also be arranged.

2.    Career Counseling: It will help those students who face difficulties in deciding majors and professions. It will also help students to develop a set of skills aligned with their personalities.

3.   Understand and Working with Trauma: The aim of this training is understand the role of trauma in an individual’s life as well as what kind of role an institution can play to safeguard the person who is going through trauma. How to handle trauma cases on institutional level.

 

Other important areas which are covered in the training includes:

1.    Depression and Suicide Prevention

2.    Crisis Management

3.    Role of Positive Psychology in Wellbeing

4.    Tour of the IBA and services offered.

 

Achievement under HESSA Training: As a Resource Person Ms Samina Uzair cover the treatment part of the training. The title of her training was “Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.”

1.    Policy to handle crisis cases

2.    Digitization of counseling services

3.    Collaboration with other institutes

4.    Taking a psychiatrist on board.
