"A Step Ahead towards Diversity and Inclusivity:
Facilitating Learning of Basic Mathematics and Statistics to Blind Girls
at Lahore College for Women University, Lahore.
A ceremony was held to officially hand over the teaching materials to the Independent Living Centre, LCWU as part of the project titled "A Step Ahead towards Diversity and Inclusivity: Facilitating Learning of Basic Mathematics and Statistics to Blind Girls at Lahore College for Women University, Lahore, Pakistan”. This project, was led by Dr. Asifa Kamal (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Mariyam Hafeez (Co-Principal Investigator). Funding was awarded by the Elsevier 2023 Mathematical Sciences Sponsorship Fund (MSSF).
The initiative aims to empower blind girls by equipping them with essential tools and resources to excel in basic mathematics and statistics. Prof. Dr. Uzma Qureshi, the Worthy Vice Chancellor, LCWU, graced the ceremony and commended the efforts of the Principal Investigator, Co-Principal Investigator, and the entire faculty of the Statistics Department in supporting visually impaired students in their learning journey. She interacted with the visually impaired students, encouraging them to harness their potential in STEM fields and reaffirming her commitment to fostering diversity in LCWU's educational process. Faculty members from the Statistics Department were present at the event. Dr. Asma Seemi Malik, Chairperson of the Sociology Department and Incharge of the Independent Living Center, LCWU, also acknowledged the dedication of Dr. Asifa Kamal and her team in arranging materials designed to make basic mathematics and statistics more accessible and understandable to blind students, thereby promoting a more inclusive learning environment for them at LCWU.
