Celebrating Diversity – A Mega Event

On 27th January, 2022 Lahore College for Women University hosted grand function. The event titled ‘Celebrating Diversity – A Mega Event’. The occasion was graced by the honourable Vice Chancellor, LCWU Prof Dr Bushra Mirza. She delivered the opening address and appreciated the organisers for putting forward a ground breaking effort in this all-inclusive event celebrating diversity.
 
The first panel discussion of the evening revolved around the topic ‘Strengthening Government Response & Coordination for the Protection of Human Rights’ (#Together4Humanity). The discussion was moderated by Dr Amara Khan, Chairperson English Department of Language and Literature, Lahore College for Women University. The panellists included Mr. Gul Hassan Abbas, Executive Director Initiatives for Sustainable Development. Mr. Muhammad Rizwan Minister for Environment Protection Punjab. Ms. Lubna Mansoor, Regional Director Ministry of Human Rights. Dr. Abida Ashraf, Human Rights Chair, Punjab University. The panel was met with audience questions, strengthening the debate and the discussion came to a fruitful conclusion.
 
LCWU’s Siraj ud Din Dramatics Society delivered an inspiring performance ‘The Acid Survivor Mime Performance – Inspired by Real Life Story.’  The story was inspired by the real-life story of Margaret, makeup artist working at Depilex thriving in her everyday life.
 

The second panel discussion of the evening was moderated by Ms Zainab Awais, student MS English Literature, Lahore College for Women University Lahore. The discussion was around the topic ‘Inclusion and Peace – for a better tomorrow.’ The panellists included Ms. Masarrat Misbah, Executive Director Depilex – Pakistan, Ms. Moon Ali Executive Director, Khawaja Sira Society. Mr. Shafiq-Ur-Rehman, Executive Director, Milestone. Ms. Asara Chouhday, Motivational Writer, Trainer, Speaker & Social Entrepreneur. The panellists answered a few audience questions before the discussion came to an end.

 
The most anticipated act of the evening was ‘Fashion Walk By – Acid Survivors, Person with Disabilities & Transgender.’ This was an all-inclusive fashion walk that delivered a strong message of inclusivity and diversity. The walk was met with a massive reaction from the audience. Lucky Khan and Nagma mesmerised the audience by performing their hit single from coke studio.
 
Towards the end of the evening, winners of the competition were announced. University College of Art and Design received first prize for their play titled, ‘Dil Hai Pakistni,’ produced by Natuk Production. Lahore College for Women University’s Siraj ud Din Dramatics Society won second prize for their play titled ‘shanaakht.’ Kinnaird College for Women won third prize for their play titled Mazloom. They also won best script and best costume. Superior University won best female performance. Best male performance and best props went to The University of the Punjab.
 

The honourable guests of the evening were presented with shields. The event was a massive success.
