The Department of Gender & Development Studies in collaboration with Women Development Center LCWU at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) inaugurated its 6th International Conference, WE CON WOMEN EMPOWERMENT CONFERENCE 2024 on December 5, 2024. This three-day conference is scheduled for December 5th, 6th, and 12th, 2024, under the theme "Unite to End Violence Against Women and Girls," and brings together esteemed scholars and professionals from around the world. The event was graced by the presence of Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Uzma Qureshi, Vice Chancellor of LCWU, who shared her insights. Among the distinguished speakers were Ms. Sumayya Tariq, Program Management Coordinator at the Public Diplomacy Section of the US Consulate General Lahore, Ms. Mechthid Geyer from the University of Vienna, Austria/Minhaj University Lahore, and Mr. Zafar Javed Malik, Chief Law & Procurement Officer at DSP- Punjab Safe City Authority.The Guest of Honor, Mr. Usman Ali Khan, Secretary of the Women Development Department (WDD), along with Ms. Sadia Taimoor, Parliamentary Secretary, delivered addresses focused on combating violence against women and girls.The day concluded with the distribution of souvenirs and a group photograph.
The Second Day of WE CON WOMEN EMPOWERMENT CONFERENCE 2024 was organized on December 6, 2024 by Department of Gender & Development Studies and Women Development Center LCWU & at LCWU. The day was started with the recitation of Holy Quran following by the welcome address by Dr Uzma Ashiq Khan, Incharge GDS, LCWU.
Various sessions were held including panel discussion and papers presented by the prominent intellectuals and professionals across the country emphasizing on uniting to end the violence against women.
Respected guests including Salman Abid, Shahnawaz Khan, Muhammad Arshad Cheema and Madeeha Malik addressed on the steps to end the violence against women.
