The Women Empowerment and Mentorship Program (WEMP), launched by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) through NAHE, marks a significant step toward supporting women in academia and beyond. Prof. Dr. Uzma Quraishi, Vice Chancellor of LCWU, contributed to the program’s development as a member of the Steering Committee formed by the National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE), HEC. The program has been supported by the World Bank.
To ensure WEMP's effective implementation at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Prof. Uzma Quraishi conducted initial orientation meetings for focal persons and the Program Management Committee.
An orientation workshop was led by Prof. Dr. Farzana Rashid, Convener of the Program Management Committee, with contributions from Dr. Afifa Khanam, Head of the Faculty Development Center (FDC), DFDI, and Dr. Tahira Kalsoom, Program Leader of FDC-DFDI.
This workshop is a crucial step in demonstrating LCWU’s leadership commitment to preparing mentors who will guide and empower young women in academia. By addressing mentorship, challenges across various fields, and strategies for inclusivity, the initiative aims to create stronger career pathways for women having important commitment toward professionalism and academic leadership development.
The establishment of such programs at LCWU reinforces its reputation as a progressive institution dedicated to women’s education and empowerment. With its potential to foster a lasting culture of mentorship and professional growth, WEMP will benefit LCWU and its partner institutions alike.
