FIRST INTERNATIONAL AQUACULTURE CONFERENCE
 
January 7 - 9, 2016: First International Aquaculture Conference and first Tilapia Fish Cooking Exhibition was organized by the Department of Zoology, Lahore College for Women University, LCWU Lahore, in collaboration with FEEDing Pakistan Program (Promoting Aquaculture Sector) of American Soybean Association, funded by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and University of Arizona, USA.
 
Prof. Dr. Uzma Qureshi, Vice Chancellor LCWU gave welcome address to the guests Mr. R. S. N. Janjua, country representative Soy Pak (ASA/WISHH), Pakistan highlighted the Development of Tilapia Aquaculture sector in Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Kevin Fitzsimmons Aquaculture specialist from University of Arizona USA talked about the World Aquaculture development and opportunities for women. Prof. Dr. Farkhanda Manzoor, Head of Zoology Department LCWU talked about Perspective of Fisheries and Aquaculture Discipline at the Zoology Department and said that department has strong foreign qualified technical experts on Aquaculture. Four higher Education Commission funded Aquaculture research projects have also been awarded to their Aquaculture experts. Prof. Dr. Farkhanda Manzoor, Dr. Ghazala Jabeen, Dr. Zakia Kanwal and Dr. Shafaq Fatima.
 
A cooking exhibition in collaboration with the department of Home Economics was also arranged among the participants for making dishes with Tilapia. Experienced judges were present to evaluate the dishes. Prof. Dr. Bushra Khan, incharge Faculty of Natural Sciences, LCWU and Prof. Dr. Shagufta Naz, Director Research, LCWU distributed certificates and shields among the participants.
 
Overall, the Conference focused on the Development of Aquaculture and role of fish in addressing the food security of Pakistan. The Conference and First Tilapia fish cooking competition provided opportunities to young female students to understand benefits of using Soybean in quality Aquaculture production. 
MOSQUITO AWARENESS QUIZ
 
November 4, ‎2015: Prof. Dr. Farkhanda Manzoor and Ms. Najiya al-Arifa from the Department of Zoology, LCWU Lahore organized a highly informative "Mosquito Awareness Quiz" within the Department. Winners and participants were awarded certificates for their participation and achievements.

TWO DAYS TRAINING WORKSHOP
 
October 14 - 15, 2015: A two days training workshop on "Biostatistics tools in Biological Research" was organized at the Department of Zoology, Lahore College for Women University Lahore. It was an excellent opportunity to train future scientists of Pakistan. Resource person was Prof. Dr. M. Tariq Javed from University of Agriculture Faisalabad. Director Research Prof. Dr. Shugufta Naz and Prof. Dr. Farkhanda Manzoor HOD distributed certificates among participants.

MOU SIGNING
 
April 6, 2015: Department of Zoology LCWU and Society for the Promotion of Science and Technology signed an MOU with Shahzada Begum Cancer Prevention Institute Lahore and Surgical Oncology Society Pakistan, King Edward Medical University, Lahore. The purpose of the MOU was to promote awareness about ways to prevent breast cancer as well as detect the disease at the earliest stage leading to effective treatment. Prof. Dr. Farkhanda Manzoor and Mr. Ross Masud were the focal persons and facilitators.
AWARENESS SEMINAR
 
May 30, 2014: Department of Zoology participated in the one-day Awareness Seminar on "Cybercrime and Computer Forensic" organized by Department of Computer Science, LCWU.

WORKSHOP ON MOSQUITO CONTROL AND MANAGEMENT
 
May 28, 2014: A workshop on mosquito control and management under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Farkhanda Manzoor In-charge Zoological Society was conducted on May 28, 2014.

PAPER PRESENTATION AT AN INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
 
February 28, 2014: Prof. Dr. Farkhanda Manzoor presented her paper titled “Efficacy of Biflex and Fipronil in controlling Subterranean termites (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae) in different soil types in Pakistan” at the Pacific - Rim Termite Research Group Conference (TRG 10) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

BOOK LAUNCHING CEREMONY
 
February 26, 2014: The Department of Zoology in collaboration with the Urdu Science Board, Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, Pakistan and the Ministry of National Heritage and Culture Division, Pakistan organized a book launching ceremony of Breast Cancer prevention book titled "Keeping aBreast" on February 26, 2014. Prof. Dr. Sabiha Mansoor Vice Chancellor, LCWU was the guest of honor. Prof. Dr. Sabiha Fazal Head of Zoology Department, Mr. Iqbal Nabi Nadeem Director General Urdu Science Board, Mr. Ross Masud Chairman Shehzada Begum Cancer Prevention and Research Institute and Prof. Dr. Farkhanda Manzoor In-charge Zoological Society of LCWU were also in attendance.

PROF. DR. KAUSAR JAMAL CHEEMA RETIRES

October 9, 2013: Prof. Dr. Kausar Jamal Cheema has had a distinguished career in the Faculty of Natural Sciences at LCWU. She played a key role in preparing a 15-year vision for the faculty in 2003 and established the Department of Environmental Sciences. Her contributions extended to executing projects funded by DFID and DELPHI.


INVENTION TO INNOVATION SUMMIT 2013

April 23, 2013: Zoological Society of LCWU is proud to announce that due to great efforts of our MS Zoology students, the stall of Zoology Society of Lahore College for Women University won Shield by Punjab University, IRF and was awarded certificates. This competition "Invention to Innovation Summit 2013" was held at Punjab University, Lahore.


WORKSHOP ON ANIMAL HANDLING

March 6, 2013: Students and faculty members from the Department of Zoology attended the one day lecture/workshop on animal handling conducted by the Department of Pharmacy, LCWU.

FLOWER EXHIBITION

December 21, 2012: Students and faculty members from the Department of Zoology attend a flower exhibition organized by the Department of Botany, LCWU. The honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Sabiha Mansoor and the Dean of Natural Sciences Prof. Dr. Kausar Jamal Cheema inaugurated the exhibition.

CHAIRPERSON ZOOLOGY
 
January, 2009: Dr. Tasnim Farasat takes over the Department of Zoology LCWU as newly appointed chairperson. Dr. Farasat joined Lahore College for Women University in 1988 as Assistant Professor in Zoology.
INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP
May 27-29, 2008: The Department of Environmental Sciences and The Department of Zoology, LCWU jointly organized an International Workshop with UNESCO-ISESCO titled “Training of Trainers for Women on Water Networking for Poverty Alleviation in Rural Areas”.

PAKISTAN JAPAN JOINT SEMINAR

February ‎2, ‎2007: The Department of Environmental Sciences and The Department of Zoology, LCWU organized Pakistan-Japan joint seminar on “Arsenic in Pakistan-Drinking water Disaster Management through Civil Society” to emphasize the issue of arsenic in drinking water in Pakistan.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

June ‎2, ‎2006: The Department of Environmental Sciences and The Department of Zoology, LCWU celebrated the World Environment Day by initiating a plantation campaign on the University campus as a part of the Vice Chancellor’s clean and green LCWU program. The Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bushra Mateen, Registrar Mrs. Shaista Vine, Dean of Natural Sciences Prof. Dr. Kausar Jamal Cheema as well as the students and faculty of both departments participated in the activity.

STUDY TOUR

January ‎1, ‎2005: The Department of Zoology, LCWU organized a Study Tour of the MSc Zoology to Karachi under the supervision of Dr. Tasneem Farasat and Dr. Farkhanda Manzoor. The delegates visited The National Institute of Oceanography Pakistan, WWF-P Wetland Centre Karachi, The University of Karachi and The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences & Technology. The delegates also experienced an exciting boat ride through the Mangrove forest.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
 
October 13, 2004: The “International Food and Beverages Conference and Exhibition” organized jointly by the Department of Environmental Sciences and the Department of Zoology on World Food Day was held at Lahore College for Women University to emphasize the importance of Food Security and Biodiversity.
