Aims & Objectives

The Zoological Sorority was founded to achieve the aim of creating awareness in young female Zoologists about the significance of Zoological studies beyond the confines of lecture room academics and to broaden their scope into the ever expanding global scientific community.

The Zoological Sorority has following main objectives;

·         Invoke love and sympathy for the animal kingdom.

·         Provide an understanding of the natural world and its conservation. 

·         Pave a pathway for promotion of research in various disciplines of Zoology. 

History

The Zoological Sorority was founded in 2014 by Prof. Dr. Farkhanda Manzoor to encourage the spirit of conservation and love for nature in Varsity students. The Sorority was originally conceived as a Zoological Society but was eventually transformed into a Sorority to promote sisterhood amongst female Zoologists on Campus. Dr. Najiya al-Arifa has been associated with the Sorority since its conception as advisor and then subsequently as the in-charge.

Significance

In accordance with the objectives associated with the foundation of the Zoological Sorority, the Sorority has facilitated numerous lectures, seminars, workshops, quizzes, awareness walks, educational trips, poster presentations, videography and model making competitions, since 2014. The Sorority encourages student participation and active engagement in all the aforementioned events.

Purpose of the Society

·         Bridge the gaps between academia and industry. 

·         Facilitation of problem based applied Zoological research. 

·         Create an understanding of policy makers and stakeholders.

Achievements

·         Motivated students to make positive changes that influence their daily practices. 

·         Created awareness regarding new Zoological trends and innovative applications. 

·         Provided an opportunity to allow Graduate and Post-graduate students to meet National and International experts to improve their knowledge and communication skills. 

·         Exposure to the potential of Zoological studies by arranging student interactions with various resource persons from other academic institutions, industries and the Wildlife sector. 

·         Advancement of knowledge for long-term economic and social impacts on humans and the environment. 

·         Provided a platform to learn about National and International Wildlife conservation strategies and practices.
