Department of Environmental Science celebrated Earth Day 2024

The Department of Environmental Science (LCWU) celebrated vibrant Earth Day 2024  at Government Graduate College for Women Gulberg, Lahore, on April 18, 2024 . The event aimed to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices among students.Extended heartfelt gratitude is expressed to the staff of Government Graduate College for Women Gulberg for their dedicated efforts towards environmental protection and deep appreciation to Dr. Nighat Naheed Zafar Principal of Government Graduate College for Women Gulberg, Lahore, for her outstanding contributions to sustainability through initiatives such as plantation and kitchen gardening . Her efforts have played a pivotal role in fostering a comprehensive approach towards environmental conservation. The Earth Day celebration included various activities to engage and educate participants. Students participated actively by presenting documentaries on pressing environmental issues. These documentaries served as powerful tools to educate and engage the audience. The topics covered were:

Climate Change: Students highlighted the impact of rising global temperatures, extreme weather events, and the urgent need for mitigation strategies.

Plastic Pollution: Students shed light on the detrimental effects of plastic waste on marine ecosystems and wildlife.

Deforestation: The documentaries emphasized the importance of forests and the consequences of deforestation for climate stability and biodiversity.

Water Scarcity: Students discussed water conservation, pollution, and the challenges faced by communities with limited access to clean water.

Additionally, faculty-led discussions emphasized individuals to collective action in preserving the environment. Notable speakers, including Prof. Dr. Arifa Tahir( Head of Environmental science Department), Dr. Moneeza Abbas, Dr. Hina Chaudhry, Dr. Amina Abrar,  Ms. Fakhra Naveed, and Ms. Saima Atif delivered inspiring talks. They discussed global environmental challenges and encouraged students to take action. Furthermore, a water testing camp was set up to highlight the importance of clean water and raise awareness about water pollution. This hands-on activity engaged students and reinforced the significance of environmental conservation.The collaboration between Lahore College For Women University and Government Graduate College For Women, Gulberg highlighted the importance of collective efforts in environmental preservation. The Earth Day celebrations successfully increased awareness about crucial environmental issues and inspired tangible actions towards a sustainable future, demonstrating the dedication of students and faculty to environmental stewardship.
