In collaboration of Women Development Centre (an initiative by Women Development Department, GoP) and Department of Gender and Development Studies, an interactive session on “Gender and Sustainable Development” was held on 20 March, 2024 at LCWU. The session was organized under series of Gender Talks in the leadership and support of our worthy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Shagufta Naz and Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afzal.
Dr. Aurangzeb Alizai, Assistant Professor, Dept. Of Gender Studies, University of Balochistan, Quetta and Ms. Maliha Hussain, Senior Gender Consultant & Executive Director, Mehergarh: A Center for Learning were the resource persons of the session.Ms. Maliha Hussain shared that in order to get efficient participation in work force of women we have to make working environment safe from all types of harrassment and violence. Dr. Alizai shared that achieving gender equity is critical to sustainable development. In all societies women’s and men’s roles are socially constructed, that disadvantage and impedes their development. Further, he said that a sustainable development pathway must need to be establish with an explicit commitment to gender equality and need to enhance women’s capabilities, respect and protect their rights and reduce & redistribute their unpaid care work. Women must have power and equal participation in decision making and policy development to create this pathway.
