Session on "High-End Vegetable Farming"

Awareness session: High-end Rooftop Vegetable Farming for Startup Business25th March 2024: Khadija-tul-Kubra Business Incubation Center (K-BIC) at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) hosted a highly informative and engaging session on "High-End Vegetable Farming." This event aimed to enlighten participants about the latest advancements and entrepreneurial opportunities in the field of rooftop vegetable farming.The session, which took place on March 25, 2024, was organized in collaboration with the Religion and Business Organizations Research Cell (RBORC) associated with Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre, and Hailey College of Commerce of the University of the Punjab. The event was hosted by Ms. Nadia Tahir Research & Administrative Assistant at K-BIC, who warmly welcomed the participants and set the tone for an enriching learning experience.The program began with a recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a brief introduction of the event and its importance. Mr. Asif Waseem from RBORC, introduced his organization and highlighted organizational contributions in the field of business and associated religious aspects.With over 20 years of experience in vegetable farming, greenhouses, and hydroponics, Mr. Javed Ahmad, Director of Grow Plus Seedling Resource Centre shared his invaluable insights into modern farming techniques. His expertise and dedication have earned him recognition from prominent organizations such as the Food & Agriculture Organization of the UN, USDA, and Winrock International.Mr. Ahmad, a Bay GAP certified professional adviser, provided the participants with a deep understanding of high-end vegetable farming practices emphasizing on colored capsicum and cherry tomatoes, enriching the participants with knowledge to upgrade their home gardening techniques and explore new entrepreneurial avenues in agriculture.The session concluded with remarks from Prof. Dr. Muhammad Atiq ur Rahman, Professor/ Chairperson, Department of City and Regional Planning and Dr. Neelma Munir, Associate Professor at the Biotechnology Department, LCWU. She expressed her gratitude to Mr. Ahmad for his enlightening presentation and emphasized the importance of modern agricultural practices.

A token of appreciation was presented to Mr. Ahmad by Dr. Maria Anjum, Director of K-BIC, as a gesture of gratitude for his valuable contribution to the event.At the end of the session, it was announced that K-BIC will conduct a competition on rooftop gardening. All interested students will be provided with seeds and grow bags from RBORC for a period of 03 months. Those who win the competition will receive resources and support to kickstart their rooftop gardening venture as a startup. The event was a great success, leaving participants inspired and equipped with new knowledge to advance in the field of high-end vegetable farming. K-BIC remains committed to providing such valuable learning opportunities to foster entrepreneurship and innovation in agriculture.
