An Honour for LCWU’s Department of Applied Psychology: Alumna Asma Toorkham Receives the R.K. Pachauri Award for Young Leaders in Climate Action

We are proud to announce that our alumna, Asma Toorkham, has been awarded the prestigious R.K. Pachauri Young Leaders for Climate Action Award on 20th August 2025. The formal award ceremony will take place later this year at the International POP Festival, a global platform celebrating youth climate leadership.

Pachauri, recognizes young leaders worldwide who demonstrate outstanding contributions to addressing climate change through innovative action. Out of over 100 international entries, Asma’s work linking climate action, mental health, and community well-being was selected for its uniqueness and replicability.
Her journey began in 2010 during Pakistan’s worst floods, inspiring her to launch community initiatives. Since 2013, she has organized 1273 events, planted 16,000 trees, and positively impacted over 200,000 people.
The Department of Applied Psychology proudly celebrates Asma’s remarkable achievement and inspiring commitment to a healthier planet and society.
