International webinar organised by the department of English

Over 40 people took part in the international webinar organized by the department of English in collaboration with oric at Lahore college for women university, Lahore on 9 September 2021, and more than 300 watched it live on web tv to learn some expert advice on academic writing from our specialist trainer, dr mark Perkins from Cambridge, united kingdom. the attendees sent in their questions and key challenges related to writing academic research papers and theses which mark addressed during this one hour thirty-minute session.

Mark focused on the following three areas:


    engaging audience and encouraging them to act
    presenting information with maximum visual impact
    writing efficiently with effective editing

Mark kicked off by talking us through some proven techniques for engaging the audience and showed us some writing/editing techniques for presenting information in a clear, easy-to-scan way. in particular, he talked about two of his favorite techniques, making notes and starting to write.

Mark had following few top tips for making the writing concise, clear, and easy to read:

    skimming and scanning.
    tense overview: the present, the future, and the past.
    linking sentences together from notes.
    connection and comparison.
    error analysis.
    engagement with concepts.
