An Awareness Session was conducted by Ms. Shaista Sohail

On 30th June 2025, an awareness session was conducted by Ms. Shaista Sohail (Cheif Executive Officer Save Our Society Foundation) to commemorate the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought in collaboration with Lahore College for Women University. Directorate of Student Affairs facilitated the event. Faculty members and students from different departments including English, Graphic design, Health and Physical Education and Zoology attended the session. The session aimed to educate participants about the pressing issues of desertification, land degradation, and drought, and to inspire collective action to address these challenges.

Ms. Sohail's presentation highlighted the severe consequences of desertification, including loss of biodiversity, decreased agricultural productivity, and increased poverty. She emphasized the importance of sustainable land management practices, such as afforestation, soil conservation, and efficient water use, in combating desertification and drought.

Through this awareness session, participants gained a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding desertification and drought, and the urgent need for sustainable practices to mitigate their impacts.

The session concluded by the vote of thanks from Dr Sumera Sajjad, Director Student Affairs. She said that we should encourage individuals and organizations to work together to promote land degradation neutrality and a more sustainable future.

Ms Shaista Sohail thanked Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Uzma Quraishi for providing her opportunity to talk to students and faculty regarding the issue. She also presented shield to her.
