Beyond Terrestrial: CPD Workshop on 6G Non-Terrestrial Networks

Continuous Professional Development Workshop on “Beyond Terrestrial: Unveiling 6G Non-Terrestrial Networks” organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering and PEC, 25th November 2025

The Department of Electrical Engineering, Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), successfully organized an online Continuing Professional Development (CPD) workshop titled “Beyond Terrestrial: Unveiling 6G Non-Terrestrial Networks” on 25th November 2025. The workshop provided an in-depth exploration of emerging Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) technologies and their applications in next-generation 6G communication systems.

The session was delivered by Dr. Bilal Ahmad, a distinguished researcher and academic with extensive experience in satellite communications, MIMO systems, AI/ML applications in NTN, and advanced radio resource management. Dr. Ahmad currently serves as a Faculty Member at Middle East Technical University – Northern Cyprus Campus, and has contributed to prominent European research projects including 6G-NTN, 5G-STARDUST, EAGER, and DYNASAT. During the workshop, he shared his expertise in user scheduling, beamforming, precoding techniques, and innovative 6G NTN applications, providing participants with valuable insights into both theoretical frameworks and practical implementations.

The workshop was attended by a diverse group of participants from leading universities, organizations, and industry partners. Academic attendees included representatives from GC University Hyderabad, Government College University Hyderabad, University of the Punjab, Lahore, University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, PTUT Lahore, University of Lahore, and FAST NUCES Islamabad. Industry and professional participants included Hubco, Barqaab Consulting Services, ICC Pvt. Ltd, Orange Technologies Pvt. Ltd, GOPA Tech, Amaze Al Arabia Contracting Company, NESMA Infrastructure and Technology, Hybrid Technics Pvt. Ltd, FESCON (Pvt.) Ltd, Unison Engineering Services (SMC Pvt.) Ltd, LESCO, Saudi Electricity Company, CESI, DESCON Engineering, and the National Grid Company of Pakistan. The event also included representatives from the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), reflecting strong collaboration between academia and industry.

At the conclusion of the session, Dr. Sadia Murawwat expressed her gratitude to Dr. Bilal Ahmad for sharing his expertise and providing practical guidance on AI and NTN applications in industry. Ms. Rimsha Musharraf, Assistant PEB Coordinator at LCWU, also thanked the participants for their active engagement and emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering professional growth, knowledge sharing, and practical learning opportunities.

The Department of Electrical Engineering continues to organize industry-relevant CPD programs to enhance professional competencies and keep engineers and faculty members abreast of emerging technologies, bridging the gap between academia and industry.
