1st International webinar on ‘Nanotechnology in Current Era (NCE 20)


Department of Physics, Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Lahore, Pakistan organized 1st international webinar on ‘Nanotechnology in Current Era (NCE 20)’ held on 7-9th Sep, 2020. The Chief Guest of the webinar, Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza, Vice Chancellor, Lahore College for Women University, emphasized the significance of nanotechnology in her welcome address. International speakers from University of Cambridge, University of Bristol, University of Delaware, USA, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, Assam Down Town University, India and University of Hull, UK delivered very informative talks. In addition, national speakers from different universities of Pakistan shed light on various aspects of nanotechnology. These speakers were senior physicist, Chemists, biologist, engineers, nuclear scientists. Students from different universities within the country participated actively in E-poster competition.

 

“International conference on Solid State Physics” ICSSP19

“International conference on Solid State Physics” ICSSP19, 8th-12th December, 2019 (Organized by CSSP in collaboration Physics Department LCWU). This conference was fourth in series to ICSSP13, ICSSP15 and ICSSP17. In ICSSP19 323 abstracts were accepted out of more than 500 submitted. International and local delegates from all over the world attended the conference. Registration of the conference was conducted on 08.12.19 with technical sessions from 09-12 December 2019.  4 technical sessions of oral talks were conducted every day with two poster sessions. 17 keynotes with 52 invited talks were presented in the conference. 17 papers from the Physics department with one paper each form botany and Zoology departments of LCWU were presented. Prof. Dr. Zohra Kayani was Co secretary of the conference while Prof. Dr. Rehana Zia, Dr safia Anjum and Dr Riffat Sagheer were members of the organizing committee also being the invited speakers. Prof. Dr. Rehana Zia, Prof. Dr. Zohra Kayani and Dr Safia Anjum also chaired the sessions and were judges for the poster competition. Prof. Dr. Zohra Kayani arranged two symposia as well. Dr. Talat Zeeshan and Dr Salma waseem also participated in the conference and presented papers.

Prof. Dr. Zohra Nazir Kayani presented a research papers and chaired session in ACEM18

Prof. Dr. Zohra Nazir Kayani Professor of Physics went to Incheon Korea, to present research papers and attend “The 2018 World Congress on Advances in Civil, Environmental, and Materials Research (ACEM18) from  27-31 August 2018. Prof. Dr. Zohra Nazir Kayani chaired a session along with presenting research papers. "Synthesis and Investigation of Cr doped ZnO Thin Films.

International Seminar on Physics

Department of Physics LCWU organized an “International Seminar on Physics” 17th - 19th April, 2018. In this seminar 6 foreign speakers, 7 local speakers and student all over the Punjab participated in Poster competition.

Conference on Frontiers of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology

Department of Physics, LCWU, also participated in Conference on Frontiers of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology was held on 12-13 December, organized by PINSTECH, Islamabad Vaneeza abbas was got 3rd position in poster presentation.

International conference on Solid State Physics

Department of Physics LCWU warmly participated in International conference on solid state Physics, 10-14 December 2017, held on Centre of excellent in solid state physics, University of the Punjab, Pakistan. Prof. Dr. Rehana Zia, Prof. Dr. Zohra Kiyani and Dr Safia Anjum were the member of organizing committee. Department presented 15 oral and 17 posters in the field of magnetic materials, nano-technology and ceramics. Three faculty members Prof. Dr. Zohra Kiyani, Dr. Safia Anjum and Dr. Aneeqa Sabah delivered the invited lectures. Many faculty members and MS/PhD scholars delivered talks and won the different position in poster competitions. Ms Alliya Qamar and Fazeelat (PhD scholar) won 1st prize, Amber and won second prize, Fatima Sehar won the third prize.

BOS of Physics Department

Board of studies of Physics was held on Tuesday 24th November 2015 at Physics Department LCWU, Lahore under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Rehana Zia, HOD, and Physics. The respected external members were Prof. Dr. Shahzad Naseem, director of Centre for Solid State Physics, PU, Lahore, Prof. Dr. Salamat Ali, GCU, Lahore, Prof. Dr. Rehana Sharif, UET, Lahore as an expert attend the meeting. HOD’s of Physics from affiliated colleges and the senior members of Physics department also attended the meeting. The experts gave the authentic and valuable suggestions about thesis title and to update the curricula. Agenda items were discussed one by one and decisions were taken and approved.

Students made different scientific posters and models and presented in scientific model and poster competition held at Physics department on 22nd May 2014.

International Conefrence on Impact of Nanoscience on Energy Technologies

Physics Department LCWU participated in “International Conefrence on Impact of Nanoscience on Energy Technologies (NanoSET-14)” held at COMSATS (CIIT) Lahore.

MS Physics students (2012-2014); Fatima Sahar, Nosheen Mohsin and Sehrish Javed presented their research posters in the conference. Sehrish Javed won 3rd Position in Scientific Poster Competition.
Dr.Aneeqa Sabah Nazir delivered talk on " Optical Modeling of biometric microwires growth based on controlled integration of microbial tropism and metallic self organization.

Dr. Hassan Arif Shah was speaker from FCC delivered his talk on Theoretical Space and general Plasma Physics, Solid State Plasma Physics and Nonlinear Physics. Dr. Hassan Arif is recipient of Sitara -e- Imtiaz and have more than 100 publications in Journal of ISI and was also Chairperson of GCU Dpt of Physics.

Computational Design of Functional Materials

March 11, 2014 Department of Physics arranged a seminar on “Computational Design of Functional Materials: Energy Storage and Conversion, Alternative Fuel and Nanotechnology”.

Honorable speaker was Dr. Altaf Karim. He is a Condensed Matter Physicist and Material Scientist who holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Kansas State University,Manhattan,Kansas,USA.

Skit competition

Physics department also took participate in Skit competition held on eve of Women’s Day to raise problems and issues faced by domestic women workers.

Our department participated at annual spring festival held on 4th March 2014 and students decorated game stall and presented creative photo capturing ideas at main ground of LCWU.

Scientific Quiz Competition

Scientific Quiz Competition was held on 28th Feb. 2014.
Global Physics society arranged a quiz competition in which all BS-I, BS-II, BS-III and BS-IV participated. Dr. Farhat Saleemi was invited as a chief guest. Shields were given to BS-IV winning class and certificates were distributed amongst all the participants.

Symposium on control growth of nanomaterials and their assembly

One day symposium on control growth of nanomaterials and their assembly was organized in Physics department on 10th April 2013. Dr Hafza Khurshid (University of South Florida, USA) delivered lecture on "Control growth of shape and size variant nano paticles and their intrinsic magnetic properties" and Mrs. Aneeqa Sabah (Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand) delivered lecture on " Visible light induced directed gold micro wires by self-organization of nanoparticles of Aspergillus Niger".
